The story of V's Borahae copyright registration is being stopped because KIPO doesn't accept that HYBE filed an application that is not V. Most recently KIPO added a second reason for this refusal.

The addition of this second reason shows how special the term Borahae has become to BTS and ARMY. Here is what KIPO announced.

On October 20, the National Office of Intellectual Property of Korea sent a notice for the second time to reject BigHit Music's trademark application for trademark "보라해 BORAHAE". In this announcement, KIPO added the reason for refusing to grant the trademark "보라해 BORAHAE" to BigHit Music company.

According to the text of the announcement, they wrote: "Big Hit Music, the management agency of BTS, submitted the application for "보라해 BORAHAE". But "보라해 BORAHAE" is mainly used by BTS members and their fandom (ARMY), not by the agency, and therefore widely known.  

Hence, if "보라해 BORAHAE" is used for designated products, there is a risk of deceiving general consumers to perceive as if "보라해 BORAHAE" is used by BTS, and thus the applicant cannon obtain trademark registration because the case falls under Article 34, Paragraph 1, Subparagraph 12 (  Violation of the Principle of Good Faith) of the Trademark Act".

Previously, on October 4, the National Office of Intellectual Property of Korea rejected the trademark application "보라해 BORAHAE" because the first person to use the word "보라해 BORAHAE" was V (Kim Tae-hyung). Hyung) at BTS's fan meeting on November 13, 2016. However, the copyright applicant for the trademark 'BORAHAE' is BigHit Co., Ltd. (BigHit Company) - the company that has a contractual relationship or business transaction (partner, employee, business exchange) with V (Kim Tae Hyung), so the registration cannot be accepted.

The Korean Intellectual Property Office sent a second rejection letter and added a reason for refusing to register a trademark before BigHit Music took action to respond to the refusal. In general, with what is going on, it can be seen that there is currently no one with the authority to register a trademark for this term other than V.

In response to this information, ARMYs expressed their opinions:

- I hope V would file the trademark once and for all, because it is rightfully his. They are sending signals to him. I know that he is lacking in the business aspect, but maybe he can do it for the sake of his  fans who  have been fighting for him since day one.

- Under what basis are they even trying to register copy rights on Borahae when Kim Taehyung coined the term. Borahae expresses the love and trust BTS and ARMY have for each other.

- Hybe cannot be registered through a contractual relationship such as a partnership, employment or business transaction.

- Kim Taehyung creator of borahae, IPO recognizes Kim Taehyung as a creator, so the only thing left, is for him to claim the copyright for this phrase. He deserves it and I hope he will be able too

- This is my opinion. I'm not sure if everyone will agree but aside from V. There must be one and only group that can have the right for the word BORAHAE, it should be under BTS or creator V himself. Not under the company name.

- taehyung should really have copyright of borahae — wonderful meaning aside, let my man get his coins
