As a leading K-pop group in the world, maintaining their original lineup since debut for a decade, people are always curious about how BTS members treat each other to create such strong and positive friendships. Especially, during the time when the members carried out solo projects, their connection attracted even more discussion.
Without hiding anything, the members have frankly shared many times in individual interviews about the group’s principle of operation: fully supporting each other but also respecting each other’s space.
RM pointed out: “We had our own respect for our own individual stuff. When soмєтнing comes out, we always watch it or we listen to it..We just usually don’t judge or easily advise somebody, because it’s their own” while V also mentioned similarly: “We really support each other. Recently, the members went to Suga’s house to share the solo songs we each made. Some would dance and we’d all say, ‘It’s good, it’s good!”
This did not only happen when the members started their solo careers in music, but also in any individual project that they carried out!
In 2016, while BTS was busy with their music schedule as a group, V had an additional official acting opportunity with a supporting role as Han Sung in the historical drama Hwarang in 2016. At this time, the principle was applied appropriately, becoming a great source of encouragement that helped V successfully complete his personal mission.
It is remembered that V once shared that because he was the first member of BTS to try acting, at first he felt a lot of pressure because he knew he was representing the group. “‘Oh, is he in BTS? He’s good at acting!’ or ‘He’s in BTS? BTS kids really can’t act.’ These are the only two ways people could react. That put on a lot of pressure since then, and I thought I had to do well.” — V recalled.
He continued: “At first I had a fighting attitude and I said to my members ‘I can do this, just believe in me!’ but I was so nervous I forgot my lines and wasn’t sure what to do.” At that time, he hid his worries in front of the members.
Until he couldn’t bear it anymore, he sought Jimin to pour everything out. “For the first time, when I was alone with Jimin — I cried it out and told him how I couldn’t focus on anything. He worried a lot about me”, V said about Jimin’s reaction.
Not only Jimin, but the BTS members later also took the initiative to sit down and talk with V about his situation. V clearly remembered: “They told me ‘We can’t fix this for you, but we’re here to give you support.’ That comforted me so much.”
In another story from SUGA, he also said that the members frequently sent encouraging messages to V while he was filming Hwarang. Although BTS was also very busy with their schedule, the members always cared about V, knowing that he was going through a very difficult time.
The members also occasionally sent V very funny photos to encourage and help him relax before going into a scene. Even Jin immediately agreed when he received the request to sing the Hwarang OST together with V as a way to support his younger brother.
This heartwarming behind-the-scenes support helped V complete all 18 episodes, impressing viewers with a bright, lively, and warm Han Sung. Not to mention, the strong backing of the other six members gave him enough spirit and strength to successfully complete BTS’s performance schedules in between his tight filming schedule.
BTS is always one whole! Whoever stands on stage or steps into an individual project, behind them there are always the other six members watching and giving strength. This solid companionship has created BTS’s unique identity — a group where the success of each individual is also the success of all!
