V Confesses That He Thought About Hurting Himself To Take A Break

For more than a decade, BTS has always worked hard to reach dreams and achievements that no other Kpop group can achieve. But invisible, devoting all their energy to their career causes members to abandon their physical and mental health.

During a conversation with SUGA, V shared about the time he found most difficult in his career. They both agreed that that was the time when they were most exhausted physically and mentally, leading to thoughts of disbandment. Not only that, at that time, V even ȟɥȑț himself.

Looking back at that time, V admitted his negative thoughts and also realized the lesson for himself in the future:

At the present time, BTS has been on the journey for more than a decade and they are still continuing a wonderful chapter 2 with their fans while performing their m̷i̷l̷i̷t̷a̷r̷y̷ service. Compared to previous years, the schedules of the members in general and V in particular are a little less busy, but they actually still work hard even on their days off.

However, in recent years, BTS and their managers have come up with better ways to arrange their schedules so that the group still has long breaks between their busy schedules. Therefore, BTS still maintains good health and mental comfort to be able to produce music, perform or interact with fans.

But when recalling the past period, V couldn't help but recall the difficult times he and the group had while promoting Fake Love. This is also the time that Jin mentioned in his tearful speech at MAMA 2018: "It was really tough for all of us mentally earlier this year. We even talked about whether to disband or not and gave it a lot of thought… but we pulled ourselves together and I’m so glad that we were able to receive such an amazing award. I’d like to thank our members for pulling together. I’m so grateful for our members and for ARMY for always showing us their love and support. Thank you."

Regarding this, V admitted that although the members always try and work hard, because of that, they feel exhausted. In particular, V admitted that there were times when he wanted to rest but couldn't and he forced himself to endure the pain to get through that time.

He talked about exhaustion being the most important reason why he and his members thought about disbanding: "It’s like… After some time had pαѕѕed, I started to compare myself to others. ‘Because my pace is slower than the members, and my thoughts are a bit different. Is that why I’m more burned out?’ I thought this a lot whenever I looked at our members when we perform. The members are so perfect, and they enjoy the stage. ‘But why am I the only one like this?’ is what I thought at that time."

Despite all of BTS’s achievements at the time, from MAMA to AMAs to Billboard, V was overwhelmed. This resulted in severe burnout: "So, relatively, my burnout was severe. At the time, our results and circumstances were ones we should’ve been so happy about…"

V felt so exhausted, especially during the “Fake Love” era, that he wanted at least one day off to rest. So, he inquired if they could take a day off after filming the MV since there was a day with only dance practice scheduled. He remembered: "I was so exhausted. I thought so much about taking just one day off; I was so tired I wanted one day off where I could do nothing. In 2018, after we shot the MV for ‘Fake Love,’ I was so exhausted that I asked, ‘Since tomorrow we only have dance practice, would it be okay if we took a day off?'".

Unfortunately, the dance practice was too important to cancel since the group was preparing for the comeback. Yet, V felt he couldn’t do anything due to his exhaustion: "But we were preparing for our comeback, and it was an important dance practice, so we couldn’t rest. So, I was like, ‘I guess we can’t rest.’ And all this negativity piled up inside me.  I didn’t think I could do anything in that state…"

V was desperate to find a way to rest, so much so that he contemplated ȟɥȑțing or injuring himself to take a break and rest finally. He saw it as the only solution to his dilemma: "So, I kept thinking of ways I could rest, but I couldn’t think of anything. So, I even thought I should get ȟɥȑț…"

Everything V told about his time seemed to be clearly recreated in the song "Tears" - a song composed at the same time when the members felt the most difficult. It is known for its lyrics about breaking up between lovers, but in reality, it was written while the members thought about disbanding. But in the end, luckily, all the members sat back and rested for a while thinking of the fans and other members, they decided to extend their contract in the last moments.

V also added that when he and Jungkook received a text message from SUGA with the line "Love you guys", they both had more will to move on. A message from SUGA during that difficult time touched V and also gave him an opportunity to become stronger. This shows that when the members are together, they can solve even the most complicated situations.

Thanks to BTS's great friendship, we can still witness the journey of the 7 boys for many more years. So grateful that V, SUGA and BTS got through that difficult period together!
