SM Entertainment Under Fire For Allegedly Plagiarizing V’s “Layover” Album With SHINee Taemin’s Upcoming Album Design

Over 20 years of formation and development, SM Entertainment has produced many famous Kpop groups, becoming legends of the kσrєαn idol industry. In each generation of idols, SM has top famous names, and trend-leading projects that make the public often call SM the "model book" of Kpop.

However, in recent years, SM Entertainment has also been accused of plagiarism many times in products from other entertainment companies. Most recently, Taemin's upcoming album was accused of "copying" ideas from V's previously released album Layover.

ARMYs have pointed out many details showing that the ideas of the two albums are similar as well as expressing their confusion that SM would do this:

In the Kpop world, there are many incidents related to plagiarism of ideas from music, concepts to designed images... In some cases, accusations of plagiarism can be unreasonable and true. True, but in some cases, there is irrefutable evidence of coincidence between later works and earlier works.

SM has also many times been caught up in suspicions related to plagiarizing the designs of other idol groups in the industry. For example, many people pointed out that NCT 2020's teaser was too similar to photos taken for fashion brand Sunnei's advertising campaign, and EXO's teaser was said to be inspired by the art design of a swєdєn human graphic designer, Red Velvet's outfit was once said to be modeled after another designer's collection...

And yet, most recently, many people have pointed out that the design and photoconcept of Taemin's (SHINee) upcoming album "plagiarized" the idea of V's solo album Layover. This accusation became a stir after as SM Entertainment teased the release of Taemin's new album, Guilty on October 22.

After SHINee's Twitter shared a photo of what netizens can expect from Taemin's album, including some of the songs, concept photos, and outer packaging, many people couldn't help but be surprised that it has Many details are too similar to Layover. In particular, they noted similarities in the outer box, the style of the concept photos, and the fact that one of the songs was also called “Blue.”

V released his debut album Layover in September and it immediately attracted fans' attention because of its unique and fresh concept. Not only that, because V's physical album had his own unique designs, fans were very impressed, so they couldn't hide their surprise when they saw this appear in Taemin's album...

It's possible that much of the songwriting and planning was done before V's album was released, but many ARMYs are sharing their anger at how similar the styles of both albums are:
