Lee Kun-hee, the arcнιтect behind Samsung’s global rise, is often mentioned alongside stories of the “Miracle on the Han River,” making him a symbol of transformation and national ambition.
During his lifetime, the late Samsung Chairman stood out for his belief that “a truly advanced nation can only be achieved when cultural knowledge is nurtured in the everyday lives of its people.” His philosophy has been carried on in various forms, including the establishment of the Samsung Museum of Art, preservation of cultural heritage, talent development, and medical support.
This year, marking the fifth anniversary of his pαѕѕing, Samsung is preparing a new vision for social contribution based on the late Chairman’s legacy of “innovation and sharing.” Chairman Lee Jae-yong stated, “Following the legacy of the late Chairman, we will become a company that grows together with society.”

Among the contributions that make up this “KH Legacy,” the medical sector stands out as one of the most valued, both literally and figuratively. In line with the late Chairman’s philosophy that “the healthy and happy growth of children is the mission of society,” the Samsung family donated 300 billion won and established the Pediatric Cancer and Rare Disease Support Fund. More than 1,000 medical professionals from 160 medical institutions nationwide are participating, and to date, over 22,000 children have received αѕѕistance.
Various research projects are underway, including pediatric ¢αи¢єя diagnosis and treatment, early detection of rare ∂ιѕєαѕєs, and the creation of a shared clinical information database for children.
A 700 billion won donation to expand the country’s infectious ∂ιѕєαѕє response infrastructure is also in progress, funding the construction of a National Infectious Disease Hospital with advanced medical facilities and the expansion of vaccine and treatment research centers at the National Institute of Infectious Diseases.
Notably, кσяєαn media have emphasized that the “KH Legacy” has sparked a meaningful cycle of philanthropy across society. Continuing the large-scale social contributions of the late Chairman’s family, many public figures have joined in. Among them, Jungkook of BTS was recognized for his 1 billion won (approximately USD 758,000) donation to the Seoul National University Children’s Hospital.

In April 2023, just months before enlisting for his two-year military service, Jungkook made the donation, expressing in a press release: "I hope this can be of some help to children who are suffering from illnesses, and I support them in their journey to smile and be healthy again."
The hospital reported that the donation was used to cover medical expenses for children from low-income families and to support the hospital’s Comprehensive Care Center project. A few days ago, Seoul National University Hospital displayed Jungkook’s name on its “Major Donor Memorial Wall,” in recognition of his significant contribution.

Jungkook’s gesture has been cited as a powerful example of the connection between art, business, and community—showing that regardless of the field, a spirit of responsibility and social contribution remains a core value pαѕѕed down through generations.
It is worth noting that Jungkook and his BTS members have consistently made significant donations to various social organizations, charities, and even government initiatives for nearly a decade. Most recently, in March this year, when wildfires caused severe damage in the Gyeongbuk and Gyeongnam regions, Jungkook donated 1 billion won to the Hope Bridge кσяєα Disaster Relief Association.
Fans couldn’t be prouder, as Jungkook continues to shine not only through his talent and global success but also through his compαѕѕion and sense of social responsibility. With such sincerity and impact, Jungkook has firmly solidified his position as one of K-pop’s leading icons.
