In recent years, the BTS members have become increasingly active on TikTok, starting with Jungkook and J-Hope, followed by V and, most recently, Jimin. Interestingly, BTS’ TikTok accounts often come as a surprise due to the way they appear so suddenly — a brand-new account with the member’s stage name, a blue checkmark, and almost no prior announcement. It is only after other members follow the account or the member themselves posts a video that fans can confidently confirm it is an official account.

Over the past few days, a “suspicious” TikTok account believed to belong to RM has also emerged, seemingly following a similar pattern. The account uses a profile picture identical to the avatar RM currently uses on Instagram, has the username “kimnamjoon,” and lists “RM @BTS” in its bio. More notably, the account also has a blue checkmark indicating that it is an official account, leading many fans to believe that BTS’ leader had finally and quietly joined the platform.

Had the account not made any further suspicious moves, it might have successfully gained the trust of some ARMYs. However, its latest actions went too far and inadvertently exposed everything!

On the 14th, several major RM fan accounts quickly issued warnings that this was not his official account but an impersonation account. One of the clearest pieces of evidence was the account’s origin information. The account was newly created and originated from Vietnam — which clearly makes little sense considering that RM is South кσяєαn. When fans check the information of the other BTS members’ official TikTok accounts, they all show South кσяєα as their country of origin.

What is even more notable is that the person behind the account did not simply impersonate RM but also took the audacious step of accepting donations from viewers. The impersonator held a series of countdown-style livestreams with titles such as “please stay tuned my fans,” making it seem as though RM was about to debut on TikTok and deliberately attracting a large amount of attention from fans.

Does RM really need money so badly that he has to livestream just to receive donations from fans? The idea is obviously ridiculous, yet many fans still failed to recognize what was going on. They followed the account and even sent gifts — essentially real money — allowing the impersonator to happily collect their money and laugh at how easily so many people had been fooled.

RM, meanwhile, is not the only BTS member to have fallen victim to this type of scam. Around July last year, a TikTok account using the username “jmofbts1” was widely circulated among fans. Within just a few hours after rumors about the account spread, it quickly gained nearly 200,000 followers. Some fans, however, noticed several suspicious details that made them question the account’s authenticity. Eventually, after further investigation by fans, the account was confirmed to be fake.

Jimin’s case gives ARMYs even more reason to remain cautious. In August this year, Jimin actually opened his official TikTok account, with the other BTS members publicly vouching for it. Therefore, unless an account is confirmed by the member themselves or followed by BTS’ official account and the other members, fans should at least refrain from αѕѕuming that it is an official account.

Amid the situation, ARMYs quickly urged other fans to stay alert and be cautious of this account. They emphasized that RM’s only publicly confirmed social media account at the moment is his official Instagram. Fans have been advised not to send money, share or interact with the suspicious account, and to report it to the platform and HYBE for impersonation:

- This account is impersonating Namjoon and conducting live streams using his identity to monetize. Please report it for identity theft

- I typed a warning message in the live chat. But they blocked me. These scammers really have no shame

- This account here is also NOT RM. He doesn't have an official twitter account. Stop engaging with the posts.

- Seriously people who doesn't know basic internet safety, should not have access to internet. Bc 640k people believed that acct is real, when all red flags are in plain sights.

- It’s obvious it’s not Namjoon, so why are they falling for it? Firstly, he would never ask for donations. Secondly, he would never say "my fans" it always armys or "u guys" never "my fans"

- We need to report to Hybe. IT IS OBVIOUS THAT IT ISNT NAMJOON. This person is earning money pretending to be him. And we need to call out tiktok too because why would they verify an fake account. (Blue check in tiktok isn't like ig or twt)

- The only way he could've made this more obvious is if he titled the live THIS IS A SCAM

- It's literally 2026 and people are still falling for scams. What's worse is that these are adults still falling for it. It's so easy to tell if it's real or not—just go to BTS's official account, and if they follow them, then it's actually Nam or any of the members, since they only follow the guys. Anyway...
