According to the Global Times, the Cyberspace Administration of China has ordered a strong crackdown on online K-pop fandom culture since August last year. Many BTS members' fanbases have had their accounts locked on Weibo, a social network where many fans gather and support projects for BTS members.

The reason the Chinese government is doing this is that the authorities believe that Korean music companies are also relying on Chinese fan groups to sell many albums, souvenirs, and products endorsed by idols.

In addition, Korea can also receive indirect income including commercial contracts based on popularity and profit through tourism.

It is these things that make the Beijing authorities feel dissatisfied and need a stronger adjustment and control over the Korean K-pop industry in China.

However, despite the Chinese authorities cracking down on Hallyu, many Chinese fans are still eager to buy BTS's new album. According to Hong Kong's South China Morning Post (SCMP), V's China Baidu Vbar fanbase bought more than 170,000 copies of the album on June 10 alone.

This is worth a total of 3.49 million dollars (about 4.5 billion KRW), equivalent to 40% of the total amount of 'Proof' albums purchased in China. China Baidu Vbar has 1786,000 followers on Weibo. Before that, in 2019, BTS was worth 1.75 million USD (about 2.2 billion KRW).

SCMP also reported that BTS' popularity has not cooled down despite the suppression of the Chinese government. It shows the strong appeal of the global boy group in this country!
