In fact, Sleepy and RM have known each other for over 10 years after meeting by chance in the underground scene. The most important point is that rapper Sleepy not only gave RM an opportunity but also encouraged him to continue pursuing the path of becoming a rapper at a time when he had almost given up.

In the Art Basel podcast, RM once mentioned: "I wanted to enter an underground label in кσяєα. So, I actually sent my resume, my music, and then I got in but the final test was to have a real performance with the musicians. But I was like sixteen, I forgot my lyrics up on stage. I was so nervous, so, I sucked and I just felt like “oh man, I have no talent for this offline thing.”

He continued: "In the studio I think I was talented, I was great. But the stage was a whole different thing so, yeah, that happened and I entered high school and I just cut my hair. “Okay, this is my way, I should study. I should be a good student.”

But fate had other plans—a rapper introduced him to Bang PD: "But destiny is really funny because that performance I sucked at there was a famous rapper in кσяєα, and he saw my performance. He actually laughed at me because I forgot my lyrics but, I think he saw my potential I guess at that time. And he called me later like, “this company, Hybe, and the CEO, Mr. Bang, is looking for some young kids who can write lyrics and love rapping.” And I told him that I gave up already. I didn’t tell my parents but, I secretly met him and it happened like this. "

And that rapper who recognized RM’s potential and introduced him to Bang Si-hyuk? It was none other than Sleepy.

At this point, everything became completely clear, and RM truly had a legitimate reason to give Sleepy such a valuable wedding gift. Sleepy could never have imagined that the shy 16-year-old boy he once discovered would one day become a global superstar — and even express a heartfelt gratitude years later. 

Many people may overlook the moment when rapper Sleepy gave RM the opportunity to meet Bang PD, but for RM, that moment truly saved his dream and his career. Without Sleepy, his idol dream would have ended ten years ago, and there would be no BTS as the ARMY see today. Sleepy’s decision at that time completely changed RM’s life, and of course, RM could never forget this kindness.
