The Camp Officially Responds To HYBE's Warning About "Using BTS For Monetary Gain"

Since BTS enlisted in the army, it has been difficult for fans to update news or photos from them, unless through The Camp app. Since the time BTS members enlisted, this application has been popular with fans not only in кσяєα but around the world.

Since then, the application has provided paid services or attracted fans by using images and names of BTS members. Until recently, Big Hit Music sent a warning to the app's management for using the faces and names of BTS members serving in the military without permission.

Today, The Camp officially gave their response on this issue and fans were satisfied with the answer from the military despite the delay:

For many fans in general and ARMYs in particular, The Camp is a leading application that helps them update news or send letters to BTS members when they enlist. Because superstars like BTS who enlist in the army will be under the military's control and will not be active on SNS like celebrities, they will not be able to use social networks unless on vacation.

However, recently, The Camp was accused by fans of taking advantage of BTS members to make money and reported to Big Hit Music. After receiving backlash from fans, BTS's management company confirmed that The Camp had “violated publicity rights.” The right to publicity refers to the right to obtain economic benefits by using one’s face, name, etc.

The problem began when the app started using BTS’s IP (intellectual property rights) without permission. HYBE discovered that many of BTS’s faces and names were used in the platform’s Recommended Star Sol∂ιєr service, a service providing information about the artists’ military life and community service for the fans. In addition, The Camp also sells items such as dolls or name tags related to BTS members on their website....

7 days after receiving Big Hit Music's warning, on January 16, The Camp management announced its position on violating BTS's portrait rights. The camp posted on the official notice board that: “The inexperience of The Camp’s operation staff created some infringement of the rights of certain companies, contrary to our initial intention, so we immediately took corrective action. Parts of the system were required to resolve will be fixed on February 2024. We reach a friendly agreement to implement all measures within 9 days".

Next, they added: "As the request of Big Hit Music, The Camp will restrict the operations of all camps established under the names of Big Hit artists. Accordingly, camps under the names of Big Hit artists would close too so those users can't send messages. Please note that even if a Big Hit artist's name is used without permission even after the camp has ended, the camp may forced to close or the person involved may be held legally responsible."

Previously, after receiving a warning from Big Hit Music about this issue, The Camp did not give any official response. Instead, the website's management simply removed BTS-related posts and stopped selling doll packs and artist name tags, while still maintaining the BTS community.

After this statement from The Camp, fans believe that similar acts will be completely stopped. Fans agree with Big Hit Music's measures to absolutely protect the members' rights, even when enlisting:

- Good! They should just sat there and let people train and protect their country in peace instead of looking for ways to chase clout and money while these people do their duty

- So happy and relieved to see how they're protecting the boys

- They revamp the app after our guys started their service and added new things, looking for ways to generate $.

- i know there will always be justice for bts. I love BH/Hybe for this

- This is so easy to do for BH. I don't know why they had to wait until all members finished their training

- I hope the comics that is going around lately using BTS would be sent a warning or better yet, sued as well.

- ARMY may be buy crazy on BTS endorsed product, but line is drawn on exploitation of their basic rights. Hope this will be a lesson to others, that we are not like other fandom that will allow BTS to be exploited just for the sake of selfish intentions.

- Yes, yes and yes. Go hybe sue all of them

- I don't understand the purpose of this site bec the solďïệrs have access to their phones though not on a regular basis, they have leaves and friends and family can visit them too. I hope BH will be successful in suing this site

- Is so disgusting that they force young men to go and learn how to k word people for two years and also want to gain a profit taking advantage of the feelings of the people that love them and miss them that want to communicate with them

- I used to be sad because Jimin and Jungkook didn't have portrait photos but now I understand why they did it
