Humans are the most emotional and sensory beings on this planet. Therefore, there is no one who does not experience the full range of emotions from sadness and happiness, and so does BTS.
Although when looking at their lives and careers, many people think that the members have nothing to regret or feel sad about, in reality, they also experience a lot of emotional pain, mental and emotional pain. But like many other individuals, BTS has to find a way to deal with them.
In an interview, SUGA shared how he eased his painful memories. His way of doing things is very special and it seems to be done only by artists like him:
Usually, people like to forget all the unhappy memories that they have experienced in the past. Of course, no one wants to repeat sad things to ȟɥȑț their hearts again.
However, for musicians like SUGA, he seems to do the opposite. Even those painful memories always become a material in his musical works. It's there and doesn't go away, and he's not afraid to show others the dark corners of his soul.
Specifically, SUGA once shared how he experienced many unhappy memories in the past. But it is those memories that make his musical material richer. Unlike others, SUGA often reminisces about those memories and turns it into music.
As he writes the lyrics, he relives the pain again then lets the world know what he's been through. SUGA's raw and powerful debut mixtape Agust D is testament to this. It depicts a SUGA in a new light, an artist who has not been recognized by the world but he is always strong enough to rise from the ashes.
And until D-2, he shows the feeling of a king who has conquered the world. But of course, he also has to deal with many things as the gossip, ιиѕυℓтs and disparagement of others continue to cling. D-2 is like SUGA wanting to scream all the pressure, slamming all the defamations that are always directed at him.
Overall, SUGA touched on his past difficulties in several songs. For others, going back to the pain of the past seems to be very difficult but for SUGA, it is not so difficult to relive the painful memories while writing the lyrics.
He even felt there was no problem with it. SUGA once replied: "It wasn’t that difficult. Because we work on music a lot, we have many songs out there, so when we work on our individual projects, we always think about what to talk about."
He sees negative experiences as an opportunity to tell more stories to fans. Instead of giving him pain, writing about the memory helps alleviate the agonizing pain it once caused.
He continued: “Now that we look back at those experiences, we feel thankful because they enable us to tell various stories. And the things that used to be painful to recall aren’t anymore because releasing music also helps alleviate that emotion, so it’s half and half for me".
While the same thing may not happen to others, SUGA personally thinks that releasing music helps him process his pain better and eventually get over it. He concluded: “For me, it has been helpful. Many people are living with their traumatic memories, but I’m sure that the moment will come when they can overcome that. I also think you need to go through the process where you organize these emotions, and for me, one of those processes is releasing music."
That shows that SUGA's way of dealing with pain is special. Not everyone has the strength to do that, but SUGA accepts the painful past with a different, more optimistic and direct view.
He is a true artist, with himself and his music!
