After Youtube, Billboard continues to become the center of attention as it seems to be trying to make BTS unable to achieve their great achievements. This chart is also facing a lot of criticism due to the unusual change in the ranking of songs and achievements.
Specifically, recently in the announcement of the latest results of the Billboard Hot 100., Jimin and Like Crazy did not even appear in the Top 10. Then ARMYs quickly discovered that there was a buying volume of Like Crazy. Big doesn't count in the performance, nor did Billboard unusually change the rules for ranking songs.
Therefore, ARMYs are now extremely angry and ask Billboard to give a fair answer for the achievements that Jimin and BTS should have received:
In March, Jimin ѕнσ¢кed fans after the release of his new album FACE, which brought out his own unique musical color. Along with some great songs, the title track “Like Crazy” has won the hearts of fans with its beautiful MV, catchy choreography, and catchy tune.
This song quickly gained public love and became famous around the world. It was so popular that ARMYs couldn't hide their excitement when Jimin was announced as the first кσяєαn solo artist to hít #1 on Billboard with this track.
Jimin made history after becoming the first кσяєαn solo artist to have a song that reached #1 on äṃệŕïċä's top chart - Billboard. Not only that, but he is also the first artist to achieve this feat both as a solo artist and as a group member with BTS. It's really the pride and dream of many K-pop artists
However, this joy doesn't seem to last long as this week, Like Crazy's ranking dropped so drastically that ARMYs couldn't believe it. After topping the Billboard charts in its first week of release, Like Crazy didn't even break into the top 10 for its second week. However, it still holds high positions on other charts, including global charts.
This is really absurd when Like Crazy dropped in rank so quickly while ARMYs found many anomalies in Billboard's statistics. Especially in that there are some big differences in Jimin's sales figures.
According to one website, the song was meant to have sold around 120,000 units, but Forbes released figures (the source of sales information for the Billboard music charts) saying it had sold less than 15,000 units. It had fans unsurprisingly wondering where the other 100,000 units had gone.
ARMYs quickly noticed that Billboard seemed to have changed the rules when it came to artist ratings and found it odd that it happened as soon as Jimin released his album. While the charts had implemented changes earlier about bulk buying, it was only focused per week rather than as a whole.
Since then, ARMYs have been raging online, trending some powerful phrases after calling Billboard for their lack of respect for the group and Jimin. It seems that every change of this chart is aimed at the right moment when Jimin is promoting his new album.
On April 11 (KST), the phrase “RESPECT BTS” started trending on social media along with several other phrases, including “RESPECT JIMIN” and other phrases specifically targeting Billboard, such as “BILLBOARD CORRUPT”. Not only that, ARMYs have been sharing their anger online with hashtags.
For many, they believe it's blatant disrespect to BTS once again, with a change being made to impact the group's success. In particular, many also pointed out that there should have been an announcement if there was a change to how Billboard measured success.
ARMYs also pointed out that, in the past, Billboard has given a period of time before a new criterion is made applicable:
- billboard changing the rules AGAIN just a week after a bts member gets a #1 without radio, playlisting nor industry support…they’re not even trying to hide it atp. they saw us mastering the new rules and said hold tf up. anyways apparently now we can only buy an album/song once per e-mail forever so pls always change your e-mail after buying or the sales will get filtered. SPEAD SO MORE ARMYS KNOW
- They never hid their h@te for BTS. I have compiled all the times they sabotaged BTS since they got their No.1
- They really are afraid of bts and army
- I was waiting for this specific change, especially after last week, but goodness, they do move fast. If the playing field was level, one could argue it's a fair rule, but of course we know it's not. BTS really is the one big artist with the guts to stand up against the industry.
- This is clearly sabotage cuz billboard nearly removed all his sales
- just asking but doesn't it take a while for billboard to implement rule changes on charts? don't they usually announce a change the time from when it'll be applicable? instead they just changed it suddenly over the span of a week to stop BTS members from charting on top 10? from what I remember, when billboard stopped bundles from being considered, they gave span of 2-3 months between the time it'll be implemented from and that's why everyone out there started releasing albums with bundles ASAP so they could chart before the rule was implemented. even if it's considered as just "filtering"... it makes no sense for the sales filtration rules of that to suddenly change either though or is it allowed since filtering is not announced officially? wouldn't be the no-bundles rule also be technically a sales filtering rule?
- "The right to know about the personal information a business collects about them and how is used" "Flitering through credit card numbers, IP addresses, and device foot prints" - storing and saving this without customers knowing?
- We need an explanation @billboard What kind of rule change is it when it literally only affects one (1) person currently on the charts.
- like crazy did not free-fall btw. the song was pushed down forcefully by the change of rules and lack of payola. he had enough sales, enough streams to be in top 10.
- He even have enough sales for maintaining the #1 position
- they cant even come at us for our streams since 2nd week like crazy was quite stable
- Someone was saying they changed it months ago, but I never saw or heard anything about this change so they didn't make it very clear. But even so, there's no way in hell between 70-90% of his sales were people using the same emails.
- The filtering rate is insane and made to block us but I am not surprised. But imo, their new rules from months ago just reflected for us on week 2 because we could only rely on sales so they filtered it like crazy which they couldn't in week 1 because of the multiple versions.
- they literally changed it two days ago.... while they were still adding up the weeks sales of artists. They can't do that. if the rules were implemented the following week then only it would be "reasonable" but they implemented it during the weak. they wanted jimin off the charts
While BTS is known all over the world and still achieves success, ARMY believes that many people are still deliberately discrediting or undermining the success of the members. ARMYs want answers and Western outlets to be honest with them, as they believe the rules are constantly being changed to impact BTS's success.
