Major Regrets? 7 Successful K-Pop Idols That Auditioned For JYP Entertainment But Didn’t Debut There

Debuting and becoming a K-pop artist has never been easy, even for today's popular artists. To have a successful career as they are now, they have to start with auditions, and at that stage, there are both failures and it is almost impossible to continue to fulfill their dreams.

In particular, JYP Entertainment can be said to be the company where many famous K-pop artists today have failed their auditions among the big companies. Many netizens even burst out laughing when they discovered this interesting fact and wondered if Park Jin Young regretted removing them from his agency and now they are so successful.

Check out which K-Pop superstars got off to an unlucky start at JYP Entertainment's auditions before finding their current company!

JYP Entertainment is one of the leading K-pop entertainment companies, emerging at the same time as YG Ent and SM Ent when owning many popular K-pop groups. This is the famous training ground - the birthplace of Wonder Girls, 2PM, 2AM, miss A and now TWICE or ITZY.

Although JYP successfully trained many top Kpop idols, in the past, they also ℓσѕт some talents who are currently Kpop superstars. When looking at the list of 7 idols who were rejected by JYP, fans were quite surprised but also curious about Park Jin Young's reaction to the successful careers of these artists now:

1. Dean

Dean is one of the most popular solo artists today. However, in 2009, Dean auditioned at JYP Entertainment but was eliminated at the age of 17. Then, a year later, he started his career as a songwriter who writes songs for K-Pop groups like EXO and VIXX.

Once he had a solid footing, Dean started his solo artist and succeeded with emotional compositions. It can be said that being rejected by JYP may have been Dean's regret at that time, but when looking at his music style and the music style of JYP boy groups, it can be seen that Dean and they have many differences. Maybe that's why JYP didn't cast him.

But JYP's rejection of Dean also opened up a great solo career for him later on.

2. AB6IX Daehwi

Well known as an artist of Brand New Music when he and other trainees of the company attended Produce 101 Season 2, Lee Daehwi is currently one of the important members of AB6IX and owns a crowded fanbase. But before joining Brand New, few people know that Daehwi used to practice for a long time at JYP Entertainment and was often introduced in the mini showcase for trainees of this company.

But for some reason, then Daehwi didn't debut with any JYP boy groups, but transferred to Brand New Music to practice and started participating in Produce 101 until successfully debuting with Wanna. One and now a member of AB6IX.

Lee Daehwi's friendship with Jeon Somi was also revealed showing that he actually had a trainee period at JYP Entertainment. Even now when Jeon Somi moves to The Black Label, they still maintain a good friendship.

3. Xiumin

EXO's lineup would have been completely different if Xiumin had been accepted as a JYP Entertainment trainee when he auditioned in 2008. At that time, Xiumin had been to JYP Entertainment's headquarters to try it out. tone. However, perhaps due to an inappropriate image or some mysterious reason, Xiumin was rejected by JYP.

Fortunately, it was JYP's rejection that made Xiumin persistently apply to other companies including SM Entertainment, and was selected after päṩṩing the "Everysing Contest" later that year. In the end, Xiumin became a part of EXO as it is now and also achieved much success at SM.

4. GFriend Yuju

In fact, Yuju did not participate in any JYP auditions, but only participated in K-pop Star Season 1 with Yang Hyun Suk of YG Entertainment and Park Jin Young of JYP Entertainment as judges. But it is worth noting here that Park Jin Young had a not good review of Yuju at that time.

In it, he commented that Yuju's performance was quite normal and he concluded that she could hardly go far. However, the reality proves the opposite when Yuju has had nearly 10 years of successful activities with GFriend and has now become one of the top 3rd generation vocalists.

5. IU

Well maybe this is hard to believe but the only female artist in history to enter Jamsil Olympic Stadium with a Golden Hour concert was rejected by JYP. IU once shared that she participated in more than 20 different auditions within 2 years to find her chance, but the results were rejected and JYP Entertainment was one of them.

Fortunately, in 2008, IU was discovered by Loen Entertainment and helped her debut after just over a year of training as a solo artist. And this choice of IU as well as Loen Entertaiment is right when she is increasingly äṩṩerting her position. It's been 13 years and IU is currently the most successful solo singer in K-pop at the moment.

What's more interesting is that after witnessing IU's growth and shine, as a CEO of JYP, Park Jin Young revealed that he completely regrets his decision because she has both charm and talent.

6. 2NE1 CL

Another iconic YG female artist who was also a JYP Entertainment trainee is the leader of 2NE1, CL. During an appearance on MBC's Radio Star, 2AM's Jo Kwon shared that CL trained at JYP Entertainment for a while.

While she couldn't find a debut opportunity at JYP, she gave up the process and quickly found a new opportunity at YG Entertainment not long after. That's when the 2nd generation girl group project debuted - 2NE1.

But it's not hard to see that the style of JYP's girl groups doesn't seem to match CL's vibe so that's also why she hasn't had a chance to debut at JYP in the past. And fortunately, she decided to move to YG, where she can shine the most with her talent and music.

7. BTS j-hope

Before joining вιg нιт Entertainment in late 2010 and debuting with BTS in 2013, j-hope also looked for opportunities at JYP Entertainment. With a strong päṩṩion for dance and hip-hop, at the age of 15, j-hope did not miss the casting of JYP.

He even made it to the final round of JYPE's 6th Open Audition held on February 21, 2010 - along with other current K-Pop idols such as Ha Sungwoon and Yook Sungjae. He won the "Popularity Award" as a member of the Male Dance team in this audition.

In a conversation with IU - who was also rejected by JYP, j-hope confirmed this. However, j-hope did not share the reason why he didn't get a chance at JYP after that win. But thanks to that, j-hope became an official trainee of вιg нιт Entertainment and debuted 3 years later with BTS.

j-hope recalled: "When I was in my third year of middle school, I took part in… What’s it called, the open auditions? Yeah, I’m from JYPE’s open auditions. Starting with that one, I auditioned for вιg нιт. So I was lucky. The timing worked out for me."

Now, j-hope is one of the most famous Kpop superstars in the world. Even when he enlisted in the army, his name was still trending and getting a lot of attention. j-hope has also achieved a series of prestigious awards and achievements with BTS that not all K-pop groups have.

So getting rejected sometimes is not a disappointment as it can open up new opportunities and fit you better. Looking at the success of the artists above, it can be seen that as long as they are persistent and talented, they will definitely shine even though it is not easy to start.

And now, everything is fine with both them and JYP Entertainment!
