Many fans already know that Jin was cast by BigHit Entertainment on the street while he was a university student majoring in acting at Konkuk University, but what many may not know is that SM Entertainment also extended an offer to him at the same time—an offer he ultimately turned down. What is surprising is that, compared to BigHit, SM was far more established and held a stronger position in the industry at that time.
So why did Jin choose BigHit instead of the industry giant SM? The truth is that BigHit Entertainment’s staff seemed to be far more experienced when it came to “playing tricks.”
"I was fooled (laughs)". Jin laughs, thinking back to his casting at Bł₲ Ⱨł₮ Entertainment in the spring of 2011. He continued, "Look at how idols these days go into acting, 'We’ll let you become an actor eventually'. That’s how they convinced me. They were very persuasive."

Although this “trick” turned out to be a tremendous success for both BigHit and Jin, it seems he never quite let it slide and instead devised a long-term plan to “get back at” his agency. Ten years later, Jin’s plan has once again resurfaced widely on social media. While it may not be 100% completed yet, he has essentially achieved more than half of it and appears quite satisfied.
Specifically, a fan post recently caught the attention of many others after sharing a note Jin had written during a BTS fansign event in Myeongdong many years ago. On the note, a fan had asked him, “What is your biggest wish for 2016?” and Jin replied, “Buy BigHit.” Whether ten years ago or now, fans couldn’t help but burst into laughter at his bold answer.
Under the viral post were thousands of humorous comments such as: "They are now own HYBE tho not only BIGHIT", "Jinнιт Entertainment is coming soon", "Smart from day 1", "Jin has igin company now", "And I am waiting for it. We need Jinнιт entertainment", "Now Jin and other BTS members owns Hybe", "He is a man with vision since day 1", "We support JinHit",...

Meanwhile, “Buy BigHit” was not merely a joke or a “scheme,” but soмєтнing Jin had been actively playing up since years ago. He once shared a photo taken in front of the BigHit sign—boldly covering the word “Big” with his own handsome face with caption: "It should be JinHit". And staff literally changed the account name to JinHit for some time. From that moment on, the legend of “JinHit Entertainment” was born!

Over time, many of Jin’s actions toward Chairman Bang and the BigHit staff further reinforced this so-called “plan to take over BigHit.” From casually cutting his own bangs with scissors in the bathroom, to openly complaining about the company’s merchandise prices, to changing the ticket prices for his own concert, Jin has consistently shown an independent personality—leading fans to believe that he is not just an artist, but someone who practically has the management wrapped around his finger.
Jin’s influence within BigHit today is also clearly reflected in the idea of launching his own solo tour. Typically, it is the agency that proposes performance plans and concepts for an artist—but not in Jin’s case. He himself came up with the concert concept, placing fans at the center of interaction, and personally crafted every activity throughout the two-hour-long show. Jin functioned as a true director, with the staff supporting him in bringing his vision to life.
At the same time, Jin maintains a relaxed and comfortable relationship with CEO Bang Si Hyuk. Rather than a strict boss–employee dynamic, the way Jin casually jokes around, calls the chairman “hyungnim”—a term used between close brothers—and even demands that Bang PD cook for him, all highlight his special standing within the company.

In addition, he carries the demeanor of a CEO himself, having grown up in a family with a business background and sharp business acumen. His father and older brother are both successful businessmen, and his family is relatively well-off. Today, Jin is not only a K-pop superstar but also a co-owner of a נαραиese restaurant and a traditional RTD liquor brand that is doing quite well.
Based on all these factors, it is clear that “buying BigHit” is not just a joke, but a plan well within Jin’s reach. While fans laugh over a note written ten years ago, Jin might very well be sitting in a waiting room somewhere, eating ramen while flipping through the company’s financial statements. Owning BigHit for him now is probably no longer a “wish,” but simply a matter of “when he’ll have time to sign the papers.”
