But a surprising thing is that while discussing with SUGA about many different topics, IU revealed a secret that she had intended to get together with another member of BTS. She confessed: "I asked you if I could have his number, and got it [Got RM's number through SUGA]. But I never called him...Asking you for his number took a lot of courage for me and I had this impulse to do this quickly. That's how I felt but after I got his number... He's just a total stranger. After a long period of time, she couldn't call RM because they were complete strangers, so her interest in this particular song gradually decreased. Years later, while composing another song, Eight, she decided to collaborate with SUGA because they were both the same age at the time. While developing the idea, she felt that it would be better to collaborate on songwriting with someone her own age, and she chose other close producer Min Yoongi.
When asked what kind of song she would create with RM, IU replied that it could be “soṃệẗḧing really serious,” reflecting her mental state back then. She continued: "I think... It would've been soṃệẗḧing really serious...I wasn't in the best place...I wanted to bring out those emotions in a song".
But thanks to the failed fate with RM, the masterpiece "eight" was born. When news of IU collaborating with SUGA broke out in 2020, IU also shared why she worked together with superstar BTS on the new project.
