After many days of waiting, today the results of the poll on special military service law for BTS conducted by the National Assembly Defense Committee have been announced. This is exclusive news reported by Kookmin Ilbo at dawn this morning KST.
The results show that the majority of the public has a positive response to this issue. Besides, because it is a survey conducted by the National Assembly, its reliability is very high and is expected to affect the final results. Specifically, Kookmin Ilbo reported:
The National Defense Committee conducted directly a poll among the context of controversy over whether BTS should be exempt from military service. Today, the results of the survey are just published.
In the survey , 60.9 % of the respondents supported the alternative service of pop culture artists like BTS. It is worth noting how such public opinion will affect the process of deliberations of the National Assembly in the near future, such as amending the law regarding BTS's military service exception.
In the data obtained by Kookmin Ilbo, the National Assembly Defense Committee said, “The Military Service Act to grant special military service authorization for BTS and other pop culture artists has been filed and is being considered. We intend to consult with the public.”
Overall, the National Assembly is considering the issue based on criteria such as public perception of alternative service systems, and the pros and cons of alternative service for pop artists, and the pros and cons of conditional performances when BTS joins the military.
Along with that, in a survey conducted by Real Meter at the request of the National Defense Commission on 1018 men and women over the age of 18 on the 14th to the 15th, 76.7% of the respondents that they were aware of an alternative service system for arts and sports professionals. It seems that many people are already aware of the alternative service system itself.
Therefore, when asked if they agree or disagree with alternative services for pop artists with great contributions like BTS, 60.9% of respondents answered 'yes'. 34.3% answered "disagree" and 4.8 % answered "don't know". The majority of the public supported the idea that special military service should be performed for popular culture artists. It seems that many people think that it is better to continue activities such as performing for the public good than to perform normal military service.
However, this is not the last stop for the controversy because a few days ago, the Minister of Defense still held the view that it was difficult for BTS to enjoy special military service. He also announced that BTS's military service schedule will be announced early next year.
