The Minister Of Culture, Sports And Tourism Says That This Is The Most Important Factor If BTS Gets A Military Exemption Or Not

The topic of special military service exemptions for BTS is still a dilemma as the new Korean presidential administration has yet to make a final decision. Recently, Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Park Po Gyun gave his comments on this issue, also mentioning the most important factor to be exempted.

Minister Park Po Gyun recently gave an interview to the public and the press on many issues at Government Complex Sejong. In it, he received an important question regarding BTS's military service.

This is a story that seems to be mentioned frequently in press meetings of senior leaders. BTS has shown their strong influence in all fields over the past time. Therefore, BTS's participation in military service is of great interest to the public.

When asked a question about the special exemption for the group, the minister explained, "I believe that military service is a sacred duty." He also praised the group by saying, "The second is that BTS has promoted K-culture worldwide and has advanced the prestige of the nation."

Additionally, he explained there is an issue of equality between the fields of basic art and popular art. Athletes who win a medal at the Olympics or the Gold medal at the Asian Games are exempt from the military, and there is a debate if these athletes bring more prestige to the nation than a globally famous artist like BTS.

Minister Park Po Gyun explained, "The public's opinion is important. We are not the ones to take the initiative but we listen to the opinions of the public and deliver them to the National Assembly."

Undeniably, public opinion is the most important factor to decide many issues related to politics - culture - society. Not long ago, when the South Korean president was asked about this issue, he gave the same answer.

But the question may be how much time does it take for the government officials to gather enough public input?
