For BTS fans, besides the group members, their crew are also talented characters and receive a lot of attention. One of the most famous employees who was part of BTS's team that ARMYs love is former translator Nicole Kim.
However, recently, Nicole has faced a lot of criticism and rejection from fans after a statement she made about BTS. After receiving a lot of criticism and attacks from ARMYs, Nicole Kim recently spoke up to correct the truth and pointed out that her statements were distorted by reporters.
Below is the situation that happened and fans sympathized with Nicole Kim after learning the truth:
Any ARMY in the BTS fan community is no stranger to the name Nicole Kim. This is one of the female employees famous for her role as an interpreter when appearing with BTS in all foreign schedules and always standing side by side with the group members for the past 6 years.
However, Nicole rarely shows her face in videos or photos taken with BTS and often uses a mask to maintain privacy. On a rare occasion accompanying V at CELINE, fans had the opportunity to admire Nicole Kim's beauty up close. Nicole wore a simple black outfit, her long blonde hair and composure made her look very professional. She was also praised by ARMY for her gentle and mature beauty.
However, Nicole Kim is not only BTS's interpreter, she also held important positions at Bł₲ Ⱨł₮ Music and HYBE. It is known that Nicole Kim or Kim Hyunjung started her career at Bł₲ Ⱨł₮ Music in 2017 and served as the creative leader of BTS and also the A&R leader of Bł₲ Ⱨł₮ Music until March. 2023.
Nicole also connects directly BTS with Charlie Puth, Max, Megan Thee Stallion, Halsey, etc for their amazing collaboration. In a letter shared by Megan when she revealed the collaboration. her collaboration with BTS in Butter Remix, it also shows that it was Nicole Kim who sent the invitation on behalf of BTS.
However, after 6 years working at Bł₲ Ⱨł₮ Music, Nicole Kim still decided to leave and move to work at an äṃệŕïċän record label, owned by Sony Music Entertainment. However, because she had been with BTS for a very long time and achieved a lot of success, Nicole Kim accepted an interview invitation for an article related to BTS's success.
It won't be a controversy until Nicole Kim's interview is published with the original title: "Columbia Record A&R Nicole Kim "Another team that will surpass BTS will come out". In it, Nicole's answer about her thoughts on the future of Kpop was given by the reporter as follows:
It was also another statement by Nicole Kim that sparked major debates, most of which criticized her when she talked about "The next BTS". This has been a controversial topic for many years and ARMYs often express anger towards those who claim this because there is only 1 BTS in the world. There may be other groups that can achieve achievements and records like BTS has achieved, but no group can become "The next BTS".
Therefore, she quickly received many negative comments from fans. There were even people who attacked her on Instagram and Nicole Kim herself was surprised when she saw comments like:
- WELL NICOLE, LET ME REMIND YOU THERE IS NO "THE NEXT BTS"!!!
- Let's see how long she can helm the seat, thinking there's another BTS. She's not totally wrong tho, well, there's upcoming ones. 2025. U know what I mean
- Ummm. whatever Nicole... But NO FCKING ONE CAN BE THE NEXT BTS IN THIS UNIVERSE....
- Nicole girly… There’s no next BTS
- lmao not nicole turning into a leftover anyway THERE'S NO NEXT BTS
- Everyone's trying to find next BTS when the fact is that there won't be any other group not even close to BTS coming from Nicole was so unexpected
Immediately after discovering that her statement was "wrongly" quoted in the interview, Nicole Kim posted an Instagram Story to explain this controversial incident. She said that the headline and her statement had been misunderstood and so, she asked the reporter to edit it so as not to cause trouble.
After Nicole Kim's edit request, the article's title was changed to "Thanks to BTS, Kpop in a position that people cannot ignore". Nicole's interview response was also rewritten and in that article, there was no part of her response that mentioned to the creation of the next BTS like the previous "mistranslated content".
In particular, her answer about her thoughts on whether success as much as BTS can come again is translated by @jebhyyh as follows:
After Nicole Kim explained, ARMYs understood the mistranslation and sympathized with her:
- she actually never said about the next bts thing, it was a mistranslation
- Another example of how people are so quick to jump to conclusions by just reading headlines without actually going through the official source & material. It was already evident from the article that at no point she had said or implied those words.
- A translator was mistranslated, thats very unfortunate, i feel bad for her
- She must've felt horrible
- i knew it bcoz i read the article she never said that
- i knew nicole's never gonna say that
- I understand how many of us reacted, & I apologize for jumping to conclusions based on the headline. However(not an excuse), this has happened many times before so you can't blame army reactions after going through similar if not the same situations in the past where bt was hurt.
- Not our fault the the article owner couldn't do his job properly
- I KNEW IT SHE CAN NEVER SAY SOMETHING LIKE THAT
- They set her up real bad. I hope she’s ok
