The Comeback Of BTS Concerts Could Bring Over 1 Trillion KRW To South Korea’s Economy

In the past, talking about the development of BTS was referring to the development of many economic and cultural sectors of Korea. Recently, a report by the Korea Institute of Culture and Tourism has shown how a few days of BTS's concert after the pandemic has helped the country's economy prosper. This makes ARMYs even more proud and shows the power of a group like BTS to have a profound impact on the nation.

After Korea reopened with major concerts, BTS carried out their long-delayed concerts in Seoul. Recently, in a detailed report by the Korea Institute of Culture and Tourism, they estimated the return of BTS concerts and accompanying tourism could bring in more than 1 trillion KRW (about 806 million USD) for the economy of Seoul.

Specifically, in the report, they detailed the expected economic boost that BTS concerts could bring to the country in the post-Corona era. The report estimates the total economic effect of BTS' concerts, ranging from concert tickets, merchandise sales, air and vehicle tickets, and travel costs for tourists who choose to visit South Korea again to attend a BTS concert.

The Korean Institute of Culture and Tourism believes that BTS' concert will be held for three days at a venue that can hold at least 65,000 spectators such as the Seoul Olympic Stadium or the Seoul World Cup Stadium. If only 20% of concert attendees were foreign visitors, the economic impact would bring ₩620 billion KRW (about 500 million USD) to the country's economy.

But if 35% of the audience is foreign visitors, that number rises to 920 billion yen (about $742 million), and if the percentage of foreigners hits 50%, then 1.22 trillion KRW (about $984 million) will be included in the economy. In addition, the reintroduction of BTS concerts will create an estimated 10,800 jobs for individuals.

It can be seen that with just 4 concerts, BTS can affect many economic sectors, creating jobs for thousands of people. This is not the first time BTS has demonstrated their dominating power. Even many politicians have to praise and mention BTS in many political meetings because they have created fame and promoted Korean culture.

In addition to mentioning BTS, the summary report also mentions concerts by all K-Pop artists. The institute thinks that the comeback of the concert will have a big impact on the Korean economy.
