Taeyang Shares That Jimin Helps Him Break His Own Rule After More Than Decade

Taeyang officially returned to the Kpop race after a six-year hiatus with the new single 'Vibe' featuring Jimin. Of course, as expected of fans, Taeyang and Jimin delivered a song that harmonizes both visually and aurally.

Not only that, but this track means a lot to Taeyang and Jimin's appearance has helped him to strengthen his vision for music even more. In a recent interview with NME, Taeyang revealed his anxiety after 6 years of returning to music and Jimin's help to him in this new chapter in his career.

Here's what Taeyang has revealed:

Debuting in 2006 with Big Bang, Taeyang has made a name for himself as a veteran artist of the Kpop world. Not only that, his career is associated with many hits that fans even idols later love such as Wedding Dress, Ringa Linga, Eyes Nose Lips, White Night...

But since his last solo in 2017, Taeyang hasn't returned to K-pop in the past 6 years. What's more, he hasn't collaborated with other artists in his solo years and Taeyang also said, “I don’t normally collaborate based on work, it has to happen naturally”. But with Vibe's return, it's completely different. He was paired with a younger artist and was his fan for many years.

Jimin has come and broken Taeyang's rules for over a decade in the industry. Taeyang mentioned that Vibe was first created two years ago by Teddy Park, the famous musician and the one who gave him the hint of a collaboration with Jimin. And during those 2 years, Taeyang always kept the idea of combining with Jimin in this song but did not find a good opportunity to connect with him.

It was not until they met Jimin at j-hope's Listening Party that the two had the opportunity to officially meet and propose this cooperation. And this collaboration also gave Taeyang an interesting experience that made him break his rules to collaborate with idols outside his label.

Taeyang said that after collaborating with Jimin, he became more open to future collaborations on an upcoming project. “There will be an album in the future,” he teases. “And I am looking forward to collaborating with other artists in my next project.”

Not only that, he also told the story of when Jimin first came to the studio and even then Vibe wasn't complete. “The song that was pitched to Jimin was actually not ‘Vibe’. It was another track,” Taeyang revealed. “And when I invited Jimin to the studio for the very first time, Teddy called me right before I played it and said, ‘I don’t think the song will be that song, ‘Vibe’ will be much better and people will love it.’ And Teddy was right. Teddy is always right!” he laughed.

“But at that time, I had so many songs! I was writing three times a week. ‘Vibe’ only had the backbone with the composition incomplete and none of the lyrics in there but just gibberish. And I didn’t want to show Jimin the song in that state. So, I apologised to Jimin for not hearing any tracks that day and invited him to meet another day..."

Jimin and Taeyang built a close friendship through their musical harmony and so they revived the unfinished song from two years ago. Vibe seems to be a true reflection of their union, being “a vibe, a good vibe, comes from the love that forms from the relationship that you have with someone or the things you love and the harmony in between. And this is what stemmed from my time spent away.”

Taeyang also expressed that it was a bit of a pressure for him to come back in the context of 4th generation artists but thanks in part to Jimin and his enthusiasm that made Taeyang want to come back and show his fans a new rebirth in chapter 2 of his career. And coincidentally, Jimin is also starting chapter 2 with a solo career.

Both artists are starting a new chapter together and this is a big turning point in their music careers!
