SUGA's Advice For Young Idols May Not Be What They Expect

Although SUGA is performing his m̷i̷l̷i̷t̷a̷r̷y̷ service, luckily, fans can see him again on the talk show Suchwita. In this week's episode, SUGA appeared with veteran actor Kim Nam Gil.

Both SUGA and Kim Nam Gil are famous veterans in their industry with over a decade of hard work. Therefore, they have extensive experience and experience to give advice to young artists. In particular, there is advice about fame that perhaps young artists "don't expect" to hear.

However, it comes from the practical experience of seniors like SUGA and Kim Nam Gil Gil, so it is clearly an undeniable truth:

Officially debuting in the ̾k̾o̾r̾e̾an entertainment industry in 1999, actor Kim Nam Gil has maintained his successful career for many years with films loved by the aud̾i̾e ̾nce. Similar to BTS, he is also a famous veteran in the industry and that seems to be the reason for the meeting between him and SUGA in the recent Suchwita episode.

The actor was Jin's friend and through the group's eldest brother, he joined SUGA's show. Although it was the first time the two had a conversation on a talk show, they had a profound conversation about their experiences in the entertainment industry. Kim Nam Gil shared stories about how he became an actor and what almost threatened his career before it even started. Meanwhile, SUGA told stories about how he prepares for performances, participating in BTS's music production, how he feels about being able to become an idol producer K -Pop, etc.

In particular, there was a moment where Kim Nam Gil shared that after MBC recruited him to become an actor, he got in a major car a̾c̾c̾i̾d̾e̾n̾t that required a nearly six-month hospital stay and the use of a wheelchair. The a̾c̾c̾i̾d̾e̾n̾t occurred over 20 years ago, and he still suffers from it to this day, citing his difficulty memorizing lines as an after-effect.

Although the a̾c̾c̾i̾d̾e̾n̾t changed how Kim Nam Gil expected his career to begin, he now feels grateful that his career was paused initially, admitting that had he shot straight to stardom, he may have become arrogant. Instead, he became appreciative of every moment he spent on set due to the hardships he had faced to get there.

SUGA understands that mentality because he has also experienced similar situations. From there, SUGA also shared the advice he often gives junior artists. He admitted that most idols want to become top stars early in their careers instead of having to go through a period of struggling for money and recognition like he and Kim Nam Gil went through.

However, from the perspective of someone who has experienced this, SUGA warns young artists not to think like that. He advises them to be careful about starting to succeed too easily. He said: "I often tell younger artists. Everyone wants to make it big from the start, of course. No one wants to be an unknown artist, we want to make money too. But I tell them to be careful when things start to go well. Because now, you'll always be compared to your former work".

Kim Nam Gil also agrees with SUGA's point of view. He also noticed that idols and actors seemed to have many of the same concerns. The actor expressed his comments after SUGA's sharing: "I totally relate [Singers and actors worry about the same things] to soṃệẗḧing you said as I was watching you talk on SUCHWITA before. You said you were so happy when one thing did really great but the next one didn't do so well, which got you down. Then the next one did well. When you talked about that I felt that singers are just like actors too".

Clearly, both celebrities show that the glory of the entertainment world is seductive but if it is too easy to get, the celebrity may not appreciate it and lose themselves. Therefore, even when facing difficulties, it is also a precious time so that future success is more appreciated and young artists are also more aware of the value of their career.
