SUGA Reveals The Painful Truth Behind His Stage Name - Agust D

For Kpop fans, it all seems very familiar with artists using stage names instead of their real names when debuting. Each stage name of Kpop idols has an important meaning to their career.

Among the members of BTS, there are also some members who use stage names instead of real names. One of them is SUGA and in addition to the stage name SUGA, he also has another stage name, Agust D. This stage name is one of the popular stage names known to fans.

But it seems that not everyone knows about the deep meaning behind the stage name that SUGA chose. On the latest episode of IU's Palette that SUGA guested on, he shared the нєαятвяєαкιиg story behind the stage name:

SUGA recently returned with her first solo album, starting with the song People Pt.2 featuring IU. Therefore, he also chose IU's Palette as a program to promote his new song.

Here SUGA appeared as a solo artist and from the very beginning of the show, IU suggested he wanted to be called SUGA or Agust D by her. As all ARMYs know that in some previous mixtape release, SUGA often goes by the stage name Agust D while SUGA is more popular as a member of BTS and is also easier to appear in the media.

Meanwhile, SUGA asked IU to call her by whatever name she liked. In the end, after a few minutes of discussion, they concluded that they would call him SUGA because it was easier to find on social media.

Also, in part of the conversation, IU mentioned that like her, SUGA has many nicknames or stage names, including SUGA and Agust D. She wondered if there was a change. Which depends on these stage names when he uses no.

It is known that SUGA is the official stage name of Min Yoongi, used by him when working with BTS. “SUGA” comes from the “shooting guard” that he played when he was in high school.

Meanwhile, "Agust D" was SUGA's stage name when releasing his mixtape. “Agus” is the reversed version of “SUGA” and “tD” here refers to “D-Town” or “Daegu Town” which is Yoongi’s hometown. A few times in previous interviews, SUGA revealed that “Agust D” also shows a different side of Yoongi, full of freedom.

However, that's not all behind his stage name. Through IU's question, SUGA gave a more detailed explanation that made ARMYs sob because of his sharing.

SUGA explained that he uses the stage name SUGA in songs or commercials as an idol. Meanwhile, Agust D is a stage name that allows him to express his restrained ego as an idol. But there, he can voice his response when others look down on him or criticize him.

Specifically, he mentioned: "When I go by as <Prod. by SUGA>, it's external work...like commercial songs. I usually go by SUGA. And about Agust D...In fact, there are many cases of Agust D, (representative examples of alter ego) Eminem - Slim Shady, Harajuku Barbie of Nicki Minaj,...The reason behind creating Agust D. At first, I was so fed up back then. "Why would people look down on me?". "Because I am an idol?".

Usually, I am an idol, so there are many things I can’t say it out loud. I need means to let me feel out so I created another self called Agust D."

He continued to express his thoughts on the present moment and the changes: "  realized it when I was preparing my solo album this time. There is a problem! The report is that "SUGA is going to release another album", it may be a bit difficult for me to set these two people together in the future. Once Agust D's trilogy comes to an end, it might be hard to see him again...I think so for now because...as I am getting older, the less and less I get angry.

They referred to us as "BTS is back from t̾h̾e ̾h̾e̾l̾l ̾". We used to be really beaten up by many haters but I've forgiven them. Anger was what mainly created my music...They say I've become mellow...."

SUGA's share seems to show that after going through difficult times, he now has a calmer, more mature spirit. He no longer thinks that the judgments of others can affect him and his music.

After SUGA's sharing, ARMYs felt heartbroken because of what he endured and how he did to free himself:

- It's painful to be reminded how we got trampled on so much. Till date we still can't live in peace.

- How can I not look up to him when he is this wise and mature? You deserve all the love and support this world has to offer, Yoongs

- Forgiving is also a form of self-love & self-care. It is a difficult thing to do but once you're able to do it, you'd feel more at peace, freedom/ liberation is the reward.

- purest hearts

- I love yoongi... but i also loved the hater era! He is a bigger person than I am! Forgiving the bitter jealousy they all held towards him

- He's indeed a good grown-up!! I am someone who gets consumed my anger most times so i understand how he must've felt then! But this also makes me want to better myself

- so proud of them

- He deserves every bit of mellowness. The tannies deserve every bit of peace they ever feel. They f***ing earned it.

- You need to feel all those emotions, explore them, they don’t pop up for no reason and they should never be ignored. Healing is difficult and tough and noone talks about the toll it takes but once it’s done and your healed, you see things with a new perspective and you’re better

- He grown up well to a mature, fine and loving young man. He's brave going through out that h3ll.

- this reminds me of that suchwita ep. with Tablo

- i really want to get mad about what's happening with BB, but as an adult i should stay calmer

- we don't deserve this man

- everyone might constantly collectively forget how much worse they had it than any other kpop group but atp im just glad theyre at a better place mentally
