RM Visits A Temple Before Enlistment And Receives Valuable Advice From The Monk

RM is one of the members who has released a solo album and has also been preparing for military service since BTS started this plan. It seems that, just wait a little longer, he will be the next member of the team to enlist, very quickly possibly this year or early next year.

These days, RM is enjoying his life and finding peace in the simplest things. Most recently, RM visited an ancient temple in Korea and stayed here for 2 days to heal his soul.

During this time, he and the Buddhist monk of the temple had discussions related to the matter of military service and he also received valuable advice from the monk:

On the 4th, The Fact reported that RM visited Jirisan Hwaeomsa Temple with music producer Kang San on thay days of New Year. Here, RM had a moment to admire the temple as well as spend some quiet time for his soul before some events like enlisting or composing new music.

Specifically, on the last days of the old year, RM used public transportation to move to Jirisan Hwaeomsa Temple (the 19th parish of the Korean Buddhist Jogye Sect) with music producer Kang San, producer of Acting Research's "Mother's Way". RM impressed the monks with his way of thinking as well as his contemplations on life despite being very young.

RM even spent two days and one night talking with the head monk, Juji Deokmun, as well as a quiet period of contemplation, summarizing a vibrant 2022 and welcoming the new year 2023. According to an aide who asked to be hidden name, RM's purpose in visiting Hwaeomsa Temple is to get inspiration for new music through personal relaxation rather than the experience of staying at the temple. During his stay at Jirisan Hweomsa, he exchanged his questions and answers as a global star and human worries with Juji Deokmun.

At this point, RM first told the monks, "Jirisan Hwaeomsa is a temple that I've wanted to visit for a long time, but only now can I visit." After that, everyone spent a lot of time talking about the temple and how to regain peace of mind.

During the conversation, Juji Deokmun asked RM if he regretted that he didn't get military exemption?. As his usual and admirable response, RM replied, "As one of the Korean people, of course I want to fulfill my defense duty, to be able to speak about my rights."

Then, Juji gave RM valuable advice: “A year and a half in 80 years of life will not be wasted. It will be a precious time for you to reflect on yourself for a while: I want to be an RM of BTS who makes great music even as I get older and my hair turns gray". After hearing the monk speak, RM grinned and nodded.

In the ensuing conversation, Juji Deokmun also asked RM to "play an active role because BTS has been loved by people all over the world, and since this is the age of media, I hope that you will bring a message of compassion and love through music and video. You will become a real musician who sublimates music instead of becoming an existence that disappears at some point”. RM also promised the monk to do the best he can.

It is known that RM and BTS began with a long-term relationship with Juji Deokmun, the head of the NGO Good World Charity Bank. Good World Charity Bank is a humanitarian organization that supports and provides relief for the educational rights of poor children. Today, Good World Charity Bank operates three kindergartens in Sanpadro Garbage Village in the Philippines, and BTS donates 500 welfare packages under their name each year through this children's relief organization.

And yet, after listening to Culture Director Hwaeomsa Woo Kyung-san talk about the story of three-stone temple in Hyodaein, the area around Jiri Mountain and Seomjin River, RM descended 108 steps to explore this and listen to the history of Gakwangjeon and the story of the red plum blossom. RM took time to heal his soul by going for a walk with Kang San to immerse himself in nature to get musical inspiration as well as dispel worries about the upcoming time.

Before returning to Seoul, RM left a message for the officials of Hwaeomsa Temple that he would enlist in the army and return with many wonderful and good memories. He also hopes that after he returns from the army he will visit the temple again.

This is not the first time RM has shown an interest in Buddhist culture. He previously visited Gimcheon Jikji in Gyeongbuk with rapper Supreme Boy and leader Baming Tiger San Yawn in 2021 and visited the Gaisu National Treasure exhibition at the National Museum of Korea recently.
