Mexico City Faces Unexpected Issues Due To BTS's Final Concert

On May 10 (local time), BTS completed the final show of their three-night concert series in мєχι¢σ — the third stop of the αмєяι¢αn leg of the ARIRANG World Tour. For more than two hours, BTS once again delivered breathtaking performances as usual and brought back the legendary songs “Airplane pt.2” and “Spring Day” to the stage, sending fans into a frenzy.

V also moved the au∂ιєnce by preparing a nearly two-minute speech entirely in Spanish for local fans, saying: “I love Ami from мєχι¢σ so much. So it's because you love me a lot too. You are the reason for my life, you are my everything, I love you…”

BTS’s мєχι¢σ tour came to an end amid cheers, tears, and overwhelming emotions from fans. For BTS, it was a successful conclusion to three historic concert nights. But for local fans and мєχι¢σ City, things were “not okay at all.” While ARMYs still could not escape their obsession with BTS’s concerts, мєχι¢σ City was reportedly overwhelmed by what many called a “purple festival.”

According to local media reports, approximately 70,000 people gathered outside Estadio GNP Seguros during the final concert night despite not having tickets. Meanwhile, inside the stadium, around 60,000 official attendees had already filled the venue to capacity. Even without tickets, tens of thousands of fans still wore BTS’s signature purple outfits, held lightsticks, and stared toward the stadium for nearly two hours just to hear a little bit of the music or experience the atmosphere from outside.

The enormous crowd gathered around the concert venue directly affected traffic across мєχι¢σ City. Río Churubusco Avenue — one of the city’s most important arterial roads — reportedly became completely gridlocked. The avenue is part of the “Circuito Interior” road system, which connects many key areas of the capital and also serves as one of the main routes to the international airport.

This scene did not happen only on the final night. Around 40,000 people gathered outside the stadium on the second concert night, while approximately 30,000 ticketless fans crowded the surrounding areas during the first night. Some people even climbed trees and nearby structures just to catch a distant glimpse of the stage.

This means that when combining the crowds both inside and outside the venue, each BTS concert night attracted approximately 100,000 to 140,000 people — demand far exceeding the stadium’s actual capacity. Many people even joked that the numbers were enough to fill an additional Estadio GNP Seguros. There had reportedly never been a concert by any artist that caused traffic paralysis on Río Churubusco Avenue to this extent. While many artists struggle to even sell out stadiums, BTS seemingly had “an entire second stadium of fans” outside the main venue.

What amazed many people even more was that although кσяєαn is not their native language, tens of thousands of Mexican fans sang along perfectly to all 20+ BTS songs performed throughout the two-hour concert. In particular, during the mega-нιт “Body To Body,” the crowd even joined in singing the кσяєαn folk refrain “Arirang,” creating a spectacular scene that clearly reflected the global influence of the K-pop superstars.

Even SUGA was fully aware of the situation outside the stadium. During the ending ment, he expressed his amazement at мєχι¢σ’s pαѕѕion for BTS, saying: “Wow, everyone, you are truly amazing. I heard that there are as many people outside as there are inside this stadium. Is there a larger venue here in мєχι¢σ? Then, the next time we come, we'll have to perform there.” He also added: “I really enjoyed these past three days, and I'm leaving with nothing but great memories of мєχι¢σ. Thank you so much!”

мєχι¢σ News Daily commented that BTS’s popularity has now expanded far beyond the K-pop fandom and blended into мєχι¢σ’s youth culture itself. Not only ARMYs, but even local residents rushed to places where BTS appeared — from the concert venue to Zócalo, which once attracted around 50,000 people just hours after the group’s appearance was announced. Meanwhile, hotels and shopping centers around the concert area were reportedly packed. With BTS-related products and fan culture visible everywhere, local media even joked that “мєχι¢σ temporarily became BTS City.”

Online users witnessing the situation on social media also could not help but express their amazement:

- The concept of artists suffering from blue dot fever while bts is asking if there are bigger stadiums. BTS's level is truly different and мєχι¢σ, you're so insane too

- If he knws abt the 100k+ ppl watching in tiktok, he will definetly find a way to stream it legally!! Thy always find a way to give back to the armys and this is wht sets them apart from other idols

- Wow that’s crazy. what time did everyone get home man?? BTS will always be the most successful and influential group to ever exist in history.

- After witnessing the overwhelming energy and scale of the crowd, Yoongi’s question suddenly makes perfect sense—мєχι¢σ showed BTS a level of pαѕѕion that feels truly monumental

- The Mexican Army really said 'not on our watch' and debunked the National Palace crowd rumors with the most wholesome energy

- And 150k people watching tiktok live...мєχι¢σ can you build a stadium of 7777777K capacity...The whole world need to come to see BTS

- The concept of having a sold-out concert with 60 thousand people and having 70 thousand more outside that concert. Now I understand why K-pop fears the return of the kings

- Good morning with Yoongi asking if there are any bigger stadiums in мєχι¢σ, because over 140,000 ARMYs couldn't get tickets. In a time when almost every artist is canceling their tours, the case of BTS is truly iconic. They could have easily sold out two more shows with those fans

- The way he worries about the fans outside! I’m so happy for them, they’ve been out there screaming for days. He’s the sweetest

- For D 3, I saw they were saying 100k+ But the screams could be heard all the way at my grandpa's house, which is like 15 min from the GNP Stadium. BTS's imapct is insane
