Jimin’s Producer Calls Out Inaccurate Criticism About His Latest Song

Jimin recently had his first music release as a solo artist on March 14. The title track “Set Me Free pt.2” brought out a whole new image of Jimin with style. fancy and unique music.

There have been many compliments as well as a series of achievements that prove the success of his new song. However, besides being loved, Set Me Free pt.2 also faced some negative comments about the use of autotune in the song.

Recently, a musician along with the producer of Set Me Free pt.2 expressed his attitude towards these comments and defended Jimin:

Set Me Free pt.2 is the title track of Jimin's solo album for his debut as a solo artist. As expected, the song swept the charts, becoming the fastest song to reach 100 on iTunes and earning the biggest Spotify debut by an artist in the first day. solo K-Pop.

Not only that, the Top 1 trending in many countries along with the huge number of views on the Youtube platform also proves how impressive the MV of Set Me Free pt.2 is. Jimin has continued to prove the success of BTS members when working as solo artists.

Although Set Me Free pt.2 impresses the audíєnce with its distinct style and very personal music, not all agree with it. While many people commented on it positively and welcomed the fact that Jimin brought a new style, there were many negative reactions to the song.

Especially about the production choice that used heavy autotune in some parts and made Jimin's voice no longer stand out from his previous solo songs. One commenter even suggested that the instrumental track of “Set Me Free” stood out as low-quality because of its fake bräṩṩ and choir sounds. The comment äṩṩumed that those sounds were software-generated, which, for them,  took away from the intended grandeur of the song.

But this comment was made even more prominent when musician Nick Lee himself posted a screenshot of it on Instagram and candidly replied to the children about the idea. Nick Lee's post about it quickly received a lot of attention from netizens.

Nick Lee was one of the songwriters who produced “Set Me Free” and so he had the most professional perspective and understood exactly what the song was intended to sound like. So, in his Instagram post congratulating the track on March 18, he included in his post a screenshot of that particular comment.

Nick decided to respond with the truth in the caption, mentioning that he was actually the actual trumpet player on the piece. He wrote: "set me free pt. 2 by Jimin of @bts.bighítofficial OUT NOW!! I did additional production & (real) horns on it ? thank u so much Jimin and @pdogg428 for making an amazing song and letting me be a part ?". It apparently shows them that their negative reaction was based entirely on incorrect information and lack of understanding.

Nick Lee is a producer, songwriter and trombonist based in Seoul. He is also the one who has produced famous products such as “Industry Baby” by Lil Nas X, “Ash” by SEVENTEEN and “On My Way Feat. Jackson King.”

Fans appreciate that Nick Lee did not hesitate on behalf of the musicians and Jimin stood up to support the song and clarify the issue. Additionally, ARMYs also noticed that Pdogg, the main producer of “Set Me Free” and a longtime colleague of BTS, liked the Instagram post. It was his subtly showing his support!

While musical taste is subjective, it is true that some negative reactions are based entirely on personal taste rather than on the synchronicity and artistry of the song. And it seems that after this, many fans also understand what Jimin and the producers bring to Set me Free pt. 2
