Even though it has been a week since RM and j-hope attended The R&B Tour concert by Usher and Chris Brown at Rogers Stadium in Toronto, the incident still seems to be drawing attention.
Chris Brown has long been a highly controversial artist, with a history involving ѕєχual νισℓєи¢є, allegations of ѕєχual αѕѕault, and other criminal conduct, most notably the widely publicized 2009 incident involving Rihanna. As a result, some fans, particularly those who are highly sensitive to issues surrounding ѕєχual νισℓєи¢є against women, have found it difficult to accept seeing the two BTS members attend the concert and interact with the singer.
Over the past few days, a group of fans has continued to express their disappointment and strongly criticize the two members, with some even announcing that they would leave the fandom. A toxic section of the fandom even came up with the idea of creating a “black ocean” against RM and j-hope at BTS’ concert in Arlington, but the plan did not succeed. Calls for the two members to leave the group have also appeared across social media.

The reactions of some fans toward their own idols can be somewhat understandable. However, when another group gets involved in the controversy, the situation becomes an entirely different story. The case of נαραиese girl group f5ve, who have recently become the target of widespread criticism, is a prime example!
Since their debut in 2022, f5ve have built a loyal fanbase over the years through a combination of their music, distinctive image, and strong social media strategy. In particular, the group’s activity on X, TikTok, and Instagram has reportedly played an important role in helping f5ve gain wider recognition.
However, this very strength on social media has recently landed the group in a heated controversy. On August 18, it was discovered that the group’s TikTok account had reposted a video containing the hashtag #btsdisband. BTS fans commented on the situation, criticizing the group’s social media activity, both in this particular case and more generally. At the same time, some others brought up the ongoing controversy surrounding RM and j-hope’s interaction with Chris Brown and suggested that it could be the reason behind the post.

After receiving heavy backlash, the repost was taken down. However, the situation did not end there. Another post on f5ve’s page soon became the subject of further criticism. The video featured images of the members posing and making facial expressions corresponding to popular emojis, which some people believed was the group’s way of responding to the criticism directed at them.

As a result, criticism of the group continued and became increasingly malicious, with some comments targeting the members’ appearances.
Some of the reactions from netizens included: "The person managing their social media is so fcking annoying. I remember when they shaded Ssera during their hate train and disrespected Goo Hara. I'm so over it", "Early for your disbandment. Flopped losers", "Nugus Congratulations on your disbandment in advance because nobody knows you all", "#fullshade that group never goes viral for their music but only from being "relatable" and being on stantwt", "Save this ugly face for your disbandment", "Barely scraping 6k likes on every tweet and your team is worried about BTS?",...
As of now, neither f5ve nor their management company has issued any direct response to the situation!
Meanwhile, besides f5ve, The Pixel Project has also recently become a direct party to this controversy and faced a similar backlash. On August 19, The Pixel Project announced that RM would be indefinitely suspended from its list of male role models for attending a concert featuring Chris Brown. The organization will also review and revise its 2025 Father’s Day op-ed, in which RM was previously featured as a case study.
However, the decision quickly faced strong backlash after fans pointed out that Bad Bunny — an artist who has had numerous αѕѕociations with Chris Brown, including working with him on joint projects — was still not removed from the list. Pixel was subsequently accused by some ARMYs of applying double standards and “clout chasing,” meaning taking advantage of the attention surrounding the controversy involving BTS to gain publicity.

Some ARMYs believe that the recent consequences directed at BTS are partly the result of the way a section of the fandom has responded to the situation. Instead of focusing their criticism and boycott efforts on Chris Brown, some fans have turned against their own idols as if they were the abusers themselves. This misguided approach not only puts BTS at a disadvantage but also gives those looking to exploit the situation an easy target to tear apart in the media.
One fan wrote: “ARMYs! Media outlets, music industry, haters watch BTS’ every move like hawks waiting for any sort of misstep so that they can have their gotcha moment. Can’t imagine what it’s like to have your every decision turned into everyone questioning your morality.”
Another fan also pointed out: “People who genuinely love someone have every right to feel disappointed but suddenly turning that disappointment into hate as if you never loved or supported them, is different. I just hope everything clears up soon.”
