BTS announced their enlistment plans through Big Hit Music's announcement. After that, ARMYs were surprised by this news as well as quite sad when BTS entered the military enlistment time.

This trend started appearing on social networks right after Big Hit Music confirmed that BTS will complete their military service in the near future. It will take BTS about 3 years or more for the 7 members to complete their mission to the country.
This is a must for men in Korea. One more detail that explains why some ARMYs shave their heads is because when they enlist, the members are forced to cut their hair short, almost bald. BTS members in the near future will probably also have to cut their hairs as long as they remain in the national force.
So, by cutting their hair, ARMYs are showing their support for the members' situation. It is not only a motivation but also a commitment to always wait for the members to return.
However, when posting images like the above, there are mixed reactions from netizens that shaving their hair is ridiculous when showing love to the artist. But the disapproval of most of the fans didn’t stop some of the bravest ones who actually went ahead and got rid of their hairline to show off their particular way of support.
This is not the first time that this has happened, some years ago, there was a false rumor that the Mexican singer, Mario Bautista, would have been diagnosed with cancer, and would have lost all of his hair in the treatment. In honor of the singer, many fans went bald to show their support, and posted a selfie online with the hashtag #MeRapoPorMarioBautista, which translate to “I go bald for Mario Bautista”. A few hours later, it was revealed that the singer did not have cancer, and that he still had his hairline, intact, ridiculing many young girls who participated in the trend.
This is a very similar situation but the difference is that in fact, BTS will go to the army and they will definitely have to shave their heads, it's not a malicious rumor. Therefore, there is nothing shameful or inappropriate about ARMY's work.
