Bang Shi Hyuk has been with BTS for more than 10 years, from when they were trainees until they become Kpop superstars. Notably, Bang PD also participated in the group's training process before and after their debut.
When recalling that time, BTS did not hesitate to "expose" his "nitpicking" attitude towards them. However, fans understand the reason for Bang PD's actions and even admire him.
Below is what BTS mentioned about Bang PD and the fans' reactions.
Bang Shi Hyuk once talked about how his relationship with BTS is different from other HYBE groups: "It (relationship) goes the same for all artists under HYBE labels in kσrєα. I only sit down or meet artists upon their requests. But except for BTS, who have shared a lot of intimate memories with me ever since they were young."
Not only that, after BTS, Bang PD has hardly directly intervened in the formation of any group under the label. That's why people call him the "father" of BTS! However, the behind-the-scenes stories about how he created superstars have not been shared much. In an interview with SBS, BTS members recently revealed Bang PD's attitude when working with them. Fans realized this is what made BTS successful.
Specifically, BTS mentioned that the background when BTS debuted was that the company and Bang Shi Hyuk were having a lot of financial difficulties. Therefore, his and the group's only real goal was not to fail. In order to realize this goal, BTS's training process was very strict and Bang PD himself was the one who carefully checked every little detail during their practice sessions.
SUGA joked that Bang Shi Hyuk looked like a "nice guy", but when BTS was practicing for their debut, he became an extremely strict PD. He described, "Bang-PDnim, these days, seems like a really nice guy but...But we were in such a desperate and our company didn't have any money. So the way we practiced was we'd watch the video on the monitor and you know how you can pause the video if you press the space bar? We'd stop it frame by frame and we'd match everything down to our hands. If someone was off, he'd say, "He has to match"".
Meanwhile, Jimin pointed out that Bang PD also required them to synchronize their eyeball movements: "We had to match our eyeballs. Our sightline, we had to match that as well...We had to match where we were looking at. PDnim had us do things to the extreme". Similarly, Jungkook also emphasized: "For real, our eye direction and the angle of our necks…"
Not stopping there, SUGA confessed that they actually practiced a lot during their trainee years and when they debuted as artists. He even mentioned that he himself could not sleep more than 3 hours for the past 5-6 years. In return, thanks to those things, the group was able to deliver perfect and synchronized performances.
Although the story seems to expose the strictness with which Bang PD treats BTS' trainees, fans also understand that thanks to the "scrutiny" and every detail that Bang PD pointed out, BTS was able to become a top Kpop group today. Not only that, the story once again makes fans appreciate BTS's crazy efforts and Bang PD's dedication:
- U pause and u see everyone in the same position. That’s hardwork right there
- Thats why even their gestures is always match... just by scratching or looking in directions they did it naturally. They move as one
- It's how coal has to bear extreme heat and pressure to become diamond Bts worked extremely hard to become the shining and hard diamonds that they are now
- And with the amount of success that came from their hard work you'd think that they'd let it get into their heads. but then they remained to be the most humble, most down to earth people in the industry
- I love this analogy so much!
- The way yoongi was proudly telling them about jimin topping and dominating the bb hot 100 charts
- They worked so hard to be where they're today. they deserve even more. The reason of their success they worked extreme hard and you can see that in their performances
- they’re still like this to this day, they still so in sync after 10 years
- And that hard work and great team got them where they are. So much respect to them
- so much practice and hardwork ended up with them being in sync with every aspect of their lives
- This is pure facts- it was the main reason I started to like tannies. They were so in sync with each other that I was mesmerized & fascinated. I knew they worked their azz off and I had to get to know them asap.
