In the entertainment industry, maintaining genuine friendships can be challenging, especially between male and female celebrities. Despite the pressures of fame and public scrutiny, however, some K-pop idols have formed close friendships that fans admire. One such friendship is the bond between Somi and RM.

Despite their age difference and different backgrounds, Somi and RM have found plenty of common ground, allowing them to develop a friendly relationship. Somi has previously opened up about how they first met and shared some interesting details about their friendship.

Interestingly, the two were not longtime friends. Their connection began at a party hosted by G-Dragon, where they met in person for the first time. As Somi explained, both she and RM had spent years working in the entertainment industry and shared many mutual friends. These common connections helped them grow closer over time. She also revealed another detail that fans found interesting: the two often communicate in English.

Specifically, Somi shared: “We first met at Jiyong oppa's NIKE event. But as he (RM) has been in this industry for a long time. My friends also are people that have been promoting for a long time. I've also promoted for quite a long time myself. We have a lot of friends in common. I guess we just got close like this. He is also good at English. So surprisingly, we end up talking a lot in English.”

The event Somi was referring to was G-Dragon’s PEACEMINUSONE x NIKE collaboration launch party in April 2023. The star-studded gathering brought together numerous prominent figures from the entertainment industry, including Somi, RM and Jimin of BTS, Kazuha and Yunjin of LE SSERAFIM, Apink’s Son Naeun, and actor and model Lee Soo Hyuk.

Beyond the event, Somi and RM have also been spotted together at several other occasions, further catching fans’ attention with their interactions. A notable example is when they shared photos together from the star-studded launch party celebrating her EP Game Plan. The event attracted an impressive lineup of celebrities, including TWICE’s Nayeon, Jihyo, and Chaeyoung; SEVENTEEN’s Woozi, The8, and Mingyu; BIGBANG’s Taeyang and G-Dragon; and actor Joo Woo Jae, among others. The gathering offered another glimpse into Somi’s extensive circle of celebrity friends, spanning multiple generations of K-pop artists.
