Many fans are probably already aware of the controversy that arose in August this year after RM and j-hope attended an Usher & Chris Brown concert. Although ARMYs pointed out that RM and j-hope were simply there to enjoy the music as fellow artists, and may not even have known about Chris Brown’s personal controversies, many people still felt dissatisfied and reacted strongly. They also pointed out that numerous names in the industry continue to collaborate or work directly with Chris Brown.

Some fans even announced that they were leaving the fandom or unfollowing the two members. Among them was singer Lea Salonga, a longtime ARMY, who unfollowed RM and j-hope’s Instagram accounts. She explained her decision: “I’m not punishing them as one unfollow in the greater scheme of things is literally nothing to them. I’m doing it for me as I need to examine my own mind and heart right now.”

The decision also drew backlash from some ARMYs, with some arguing that she was holding BTS to a certain standard while continuing to follow several artists who have had connections with Chris Brown, including H.E.R., John Bellingham, Sienna Lalau, Bruno Mars, Ariana Grande, and GRAMMYs.

Most recently, Zara Larsson — the singer who collaborated with BTS on “A Brand New Day” in 2019 alongside j-hope and V, and who has also publicly spoken out strongly against Chris Brown — was suddenly dragged into the controversy over claims that she had “unfollowed BTS members after the incident.” However, the truth was quickly clarified!

Several major BTS fan accounts, including Haven Crave, clearly set the record straight: Zara Larsson had never followed the BTS members’ personal Instagram accounts, including those of RM and j-hope. Therefore, there was no way she could have “unfollowed” the two members as some posts had claimed. BTS fan accounts also warned that the false information was only trying to create a fan war between ARMYs and Zara and her fans, potentially damaging the relationship between the artists.

In fact, contrary to the false reports, Zara’s recent activity shows that she has followed BTS’s official Instagram account managed by BigHit. Meanwhile, Zara has been following BTS’s official Twitter account since 2018 — even before the two sides collaborated on “A Brand New Day.” In 2019, BTS followed Zara back after their collaboration, and the two sides have continued to follow each other on the platform to this day.

More notably, just a few months ago, during an interview as part of her Midnight Sun Tour, Zara was asked about her experience working with BTS in 2019. The singer enthusiastically shared: “It was a real pleasure to work with them […] I'm really delighted to repeat the experience again, and I definitely wish for that.”

When asked whether she was a BTS fan, Zara immediately broke into a bright smile and firmly answered, “Yes, yes!” She also revealed that she really enjoyed watching BTS’s 2026 comeback show on Netflix and would love to have the chance to meet the group again.
