Over the years, the number of fans joining the ARMY fandom has steadily grown — but alongside that, some have also left. The fandom accepts this as a natural part of things; after all, love is never a binding contract — whether it’s between two people in a romantic relationship or between a fan and their idol.

However, ARMYs only respect those who leave gracefully, without harming BTS in any way. For those who resort to defamation or verbal attacks against the members, ARMYs make it clear they won’t turn a blind eye — even if the person was once on their side. Many fans have expressed disgust toward individuals who once called themselves “fans” of the group, only to turn around and “bite the hand that fed them,” despite the members never having done anything wrong.

One prominent example recently is Chyna, a female fan who was once well-known within the ARMY community and admired by fellow fans. She became famous as “The Equal Sign Girl” — the fan j-hope hugged during his performance of “= (Equal Sign)” at a concert, and whom he later posted a picture with on his personal Instagram.

Chyna had previously identified herself as an ARMY and even shared on TikTok that the moment j-hope hugged her “really meant a lot to me since he’s literally the reason I became ARMY.” She also captioned it, “Won’t ever forget this! Thanks Hobi.”

Who would have thought that just five months later, she would be found commenting under a post from a former ARMY who insulted BTS — claiming the members’ charity work was merely a PR stunt, and criticizing their donations as insignificant and performative.

Chyna was also seen participating in an anti-BTS group, which frequently uploads misleading videos about the members — accusing them of crimes without evidence. She helped spread these defamatory campaigns across social media. Even more alarming, such posts have drawn mαѕѕive attention and fueled baseless hatred toward BTS.

This sparked an outpouring of anger among genuine ARMYs, who felt deeply betrayed by how j-hope’s kindness had been taken advantage of. Many expressed disbelief at her past claims of being an ARMY, and harsh criticism toward Chyna has since flooded Twitter.

In response, the fandom has encouraged others to report Chyna’s social media accounts and the anti-fan group to HYBE and the respective platforms in order to remove these toxic presences from the online space. As of now, several defamatory TikTok videos with high engagement have already been deleted — showing that the collective effort is working.

Meanwhile, fans can’t seem to stop discussing the case:
