Following the outstanding achievements of BTS members in their previous debuts as. As a solo artist, SUGA will be the 5th member of the group to release an individual album. Kicking off the promotion for his new album, SUGA released a pre-single featuring IU and has kept fans excited for the past few days.
Not only that, besides releasing a new song in the solo album, SUGA also made a documentary called 'SUGA: Road to D-DAY' which was released on Disney+ and Weverse. Recently, revealing part of the content of this documentary, SUGA did a quick interview with Disney Plus kσrєα - where he shared the inspiration for creating the new album.
One of SUGA's memorable stories is the anecdote when Jimin rejected the beat of People Pt.2 6 years ago but he decided to keep the demo because it was so good. And now, that's the birth of People Pt.2 between SUGA and IU:
As all ARMYs know that movie 'SUGA: Road to D-DAY' depicts SUGA's journey to discover new stories he wants to tell through current music while interacting with artists from many different cities around the world. It's like a part of the promotion for SUGA's new album of the same name as a solo artist.
Through this documentary, we'll get a better look at the works and inspirations of producer and artist SUGA. In particular, 'SUGA: Road to D-DAY' covers his journey of making music in both solo songs to mixtape 'Agust D' and 'D-2' as well as album 'D-DAY'.
'SUGA: Road to D-DAY' will be released on April 21, which coincides with the release date of his new album. But before the full documentary was released today, Disney Plus kσrєα released a 20-minute interview with SUGA as a synopsis of the film.
In this interview, SUGA shares some little secrets related to his songwriting story as well as his views on BTS and modern K-pop music. SUGA summarized some of the stages he went through from creating Agust D, D-2 to D-Day.
He revealed that his songwriting started when he was in high school. There are many compositions that he cherished for a long time and later used and remade in the mixtape. Especially People Pt.2 is also one of the meloďïệs created by SUGA a long time ago but has not been fully released until now.
Talking about the birth of People Pt.2 - the song that is breaking the charts thanks to the impressive collaboration of SUGA and IU, he laughed and revealed that it used to be the beat "rejected" by Jimin. Specifically, SUGA said that the original starting point of People Pt.2 was a song composed for Jimin.
That was at the time when Jimin received Serendipity's composition, which was around 2016-2017. At that time, SUGA didn't have any compositions with the same melody or genre as Serendipity (the type of melody that Jimin wanted to use. used for BTS' album) so he created a new rhythm - the demo of People Pt.2. However, when the song arrived, Jimin and the producer didn't choose SUGA's tune and as you know, Jimin sang Serendipity.
But because he loved the tune of the demo, SUGA decided to save it. SUGA recounted: "I first met this song when my friend Jimin looked for a song for his own. It was when he received the song “Serendipity”, and of course I could offer. He said “send me a song if you have some.” I didn’t make that kind of genre, so I made the beat in the hotel while touring and sent it to him. And I got rejected. Well, not rejected, my song wasn’t selected. But I really liked this beat so I ‘stored it’. Then I listened to it when I was working on and it was good. I thought “why didn’t I make with this?" so I worked on it right away."
Moreover, SUGA also shared his thought and love for this masterpiece: "For songs like this, it is really easy to make. Those songs that I like come out quite fast compared to others, and this one was too. It didn’t take a day to write the verse and chorus, I wrote and recorded it right away. I had recording studio in my house, so I just recorded the guide version with the equipment that I had. Then I just edited a little bit.
This song is what I listen to a lot when I am having hard time. I cried a lot when listening. So it is one of my favorite song. It was a time when I had a struggle with people... You know what I mean. I get нυят some by people so I think I said about it at the time... It’s not on the music streaming site but you have to make some effort to listen to. So when it released, people around me listened to it a lot. Not only the musicians but also my friends as well. There were a lot of saying that they were moved by this song. Actually I didn’t have much affection until the time I made it".
And now, it really was the right decision for him. The experience over time as well as the long cherished melody helps SUGA create a great hít. Not only that, but it also cleverly makes the combination of SUGA and IU more wonderful than ever. So, by chance, Jimin's rejection helped both him and SUGA have impressive and successful tracks.
