RM Admits He Considered Disbanding BTS Multiple Times But A Strong Reason Has Kept Them Together

Disbandment is not an unusual phenomenon for K-pop groups. Historically, many groups have been unable to maintain their activities for more than five years and eventually had to disband. Meanwhile, K-pop groups that retain their original lineup for over a decade are relatively rare.

BTS is one of the few groups that has continued regular group activities even after more than ten years since debut. Although the group recently had to pause activities for three years due to the members’ military enlistments, they immediately announced their comeback as a seven-member team for the following spring, ready to write a new chapter under the legendary name BTS.

Amid global excitement counting down to the comeback, a portion of toxic fans has disrupted the overall atmosphere. Recently, ARMYs noticed that a significant number of fans, especially K-ARMYs, repeatedly expressed their disappointment over BTS not releasing any group content in 2025, accusing the group of “owing” domestic fans and even threatening to leave the fandom.

This wave of negativity was so strong that it even carried into RM’s latest Weverse Live broadcast on December 6. Recognizing the situation, the leader called out directly: “Many people are asking, ‘Why did you guys throw away the second half of 2025?’ ‘Why didn’t you do anything?’” He explained, “We didn’t want to waste time either. I also wanted to do many activities after discharge, but there are reasons I cannot disclose. I don’t have the right to reveal everything, so I can’t make it all public.”

He continued, “I truly wanted to do it. Our last concert was in October 2022, it’s been over three years now. I want to hold a concert right away, but it requires a lot of preparation, along with significant personal burdens.” He further shared the personal reason he couldn’t be active in the latter half of the year: “Since last month, I’ve almost been unable to sleep again. I even considered whether I should ask for a prescription sleep aid.”

Most notably, RM even mentioned the possibility of BTS disbanding, surprising fans: “I’ve thought tens of thousands of times, ‘Should we disband or quits on the team?’” Clearly, the pressure on RM and the members to maintain group activities for over a decade is immense, especially as they are top global K-pop stars. Even back in 2018—when BTS was just нιтting the peak of their career—they cried alot when admitted that disbandment crossed their minds during the hardest time.

However, as in those past moments, RM expressed that one reason always helped the members regain their morale and stay united under the name BTS: ARMY. “The reason we’ve kept the group together until now is the love between members, and so much love and respect for you guys. I love you all. I hope you understand that. Even if everything isn’t perfect, I will continue to love in my own way,” he said sincerely.

He also told fans that: “I’m sorry for making you wait so long. However, we have our reasons, and we cannot come back hastily until we can provide soмєтнing that satisfies the fans. Considering scale and various other factors, it may sound like an excuse, but I hope for your understanding. We will definitely return; sometimes it may not meet your expectations, but we will do our best. Because I care about you all and love you. Under the premise that you like me, under the premise that you have affection for me, I'll do my absolute best to ensure we get through this well."

RM’s heartfelt words moved fans. He did not hide the difficulties he and the group faced just to make fans feel reαѕѕured. Instead, he openly shared everything so that fans could understand and empathize. His sincerity was the most effective way to reαѕѕure fans and strengthen the trust between the idols and their fandom.

On social media, fans sent many messages of love to RM and BTS, emphasizing that true ARMYs will always wait for BTS to return, no matter how long it takes:

- This live was exactly how you can maintain boundaries while love someone at the same time. We can wait until you're ready

- Just be yourself, don't listen to what others say. We appreciate every effort you do guys. We love you

- What hurt me the most is how joon said he's been having difficulties sleeping again since last month, and was thinking of getting insomnia medications prescribed again... All that pressure, hate, pain, and weight on him, yet he remains so full of love... we don't deserve him...

- We MUST protect and reαѕѕure the boys that it's okay. We must keep it together and focus on the comeback without making it tougher for them. The members are doing so much already

- Even if some toxic Armys or soloer will not support, I'm going to make sure that their comeback wouldn't be ruined, let's be on fire and make them happy on their come back, for now let's stream their grp songs and make it нιт millions on millions than they are

- Just reading this brought me to tears, the thought of them disbanding feels like someone has put my heart on fire. Real ARMYs will always wait for you guys, no matter how long it takes

- Joonie you aren't obligated to make a comeback just whenever we fans ask you to. And you ABSOLUTELY doesn't have to be sorry about we love you and we will wait forever for you'll always
