BTS's decision to focus more on their solo career took many by surprise and was initially a bit disappointing. However, this is an inevitable direction, because the military service regulations cannot be delayed and above all, BTS needs time to reorient their musical identity.
But this road doesn't seem to be easy and even the members know it. In the past few days, the rapper line has shown how solo activities make the members difficult mentally and physically.
In recent days, people talk about their "music thirst" for a BTS with typical hip-hop colors in the past. They yearn, yearn to see a hip-hop group again with simple, emotional, unrestrained lyrics and explosive performances.
Each BTS member is on a journey to find their own musical colors, the way they want to. In other words, at this moment, solo activities are their top priority.
However, this puts a lot of pressure on the members, making the members seem to be greatly affected mentally. First of all, it is the fact that each individual has to choose their own direction and way of doing things instead of coming up with a plan together like when they was in group activities.
j-hope once shared that he hardly slept because things to do to promote his new album kept coming up. These days, he is almost working at full capacity at the practice room to prepare for the debut stage.
Not only that, since before, when producing solo songs, j-hope once shared that he seemed mentally exhausted.
He once spoke to the press about his time doing solo music, describing how he had fallen into such a severe decline that he was "broken down". The cause of his suffering was the fact that he faced rejection from the album producers.
j-hope shared, "Um… I had a meltdown around that time. I played a few works for my solo album to the producers I know. And their reaction was not what I expected."
After that, j-hope erased the entire composing process for 1 year to start from scratch. But now, it's fortunate that his solo album is more well-received than ever.
Besides j-hope, SUGA is the next Rapper Line member to fall into a state of health exhaustion while working on a solo album. Recently, he posted a photo taken in his Genius Lab with the words "I'm tired" on his personal Instagram story.
He seems to have worked late into the night in his office without a break. ARMYs guess that SUGA is working on his new album.
A few days later, ARMYs discovered that SUGA was not present at j-hope's listening party. The reason was because he had a high fever before the party and couldn't attend. ARMYs feel very worried because SUGA has had health problems and fear that if he continues to work like this, he will get sicker. The process of creating music never seems to be out of challenge for talented artists.
Another member who had a mental breakdown that even came to tears for days in a row was RM. He's always been known to be brave and strong, but in a recent Vlive, RM expressed his anxiety on a new journey.
RM shared that he's 90% done with his solo album and he may be the 2nd member after j-hope to release his solo album. However, solo activities seem to cause him more pressure and fear than ever. RM even shared that he's been crying a lot these days and he feels like he might cry again after livestream.
He said in his personal Vlive: "I'm getting a lot of energy from the chatting window today. I'm very thankful.. these days, while working on music too I cry & whatnot. I cry a lot these days. Now looking at this I feel like I might cry again...There's a lot of things to be anxious about too, of course. You all (ARMYs) for the past 10 years, being anxious about that they might leave.. is that what artists and fans are? the fans are scared that the artist will leave, and the artist is scared that the fans might leave... isn't it that?"
RM also said that he hates himself for not speaking out these thoughts sooner to ARMYs: "I hate the part of me who hasn't been able to come out of this (thought) for over 10 years but...".
In addition, he also hoped that: "anyway since we have to go a long way.. no matter what happens, since we're looking at each other for a long, long time.. since while changing our forms a little bit, I want to be together (with you all) for a long, long time, it's a part of that method.. just, no matter what we look like/our forms are, let's support each other's lives & let's respect each other's stuff like that.. since we're (all) anyway growing older.. I hope it's like that".
It seems the solo pressure makes him fear that he or BTS won't be able to satisfy ARMYs. He worries about ARMYs slowly leaving him and it is the sadness that bothers him the most.
It can be seen how much pressure BTS has put on in the past time. They have exchanged a lot of "blood, sweat, tears" for new music products. So please give more love to the members!
