A few weeks ago, a post selling a hat that was supposed to be Jungkook's and was sold by a diplomat caught the attention of the online community. Soon after, when the news became a hot potato, the Foreign Affairs Department and police launched an investigation.

Recently, the police as well as Foreign Affairs officials have released the results of the case and the thief who stole Jungkook's hat also faces his charges. The penalty level surprised many people, but it was worth it:

Specifically, a few weeks ago, the social network stirred up when there was a post selling a hat that is believed to be Jungkook's. It was posted on a merchant website and the seller claimed to be an satff of the department of Foreign Affair.

This person confirmed that the hat was used by Jungkook and lost it at the National Diplomatic Center when he came to collect his diplomatic passport during his trip to the UN. This person even talked about the value of the hat and sold it for 10 million KRW (~7,006.31 USD).

After introducing himself as an employee of the State Department, he stated that "there were no phone calls or visits for six months after reporting the lost item, so I owned it because I found it". He also posted a photo of his foreign ministry ID card.

Regarding the extremely high price of 10 million KRW, Mr. A said, "I do not adjust the price. I think it will be worth more in the future than the current price.” This article caused controversy over its authenticity as it was confirmed that there were no reports of lost and found items received by the Foreign Affair Department and the police.

But this news continues to be controversial because this person sold Jungkook's hat that was dropped while knowing who owned it and did not return it. In addition, this person is also a Foreign Service officer and it is against the law not to hand over the lost item but to arbitrarily possess it. So, after the story was hotly discussed, the authorities started an investigation and today the results are in.

Seocho Police Department in Seoul said, “Earlier this month, HYBE gave an answer from the passport department at the National Diplomatic Center that Jungkook had lost his hat. The hat is what Jungkook lost.” Here, it means that the hat was posted for sale on social networks and HYBE has confirmed this information.

The police also added about the criminal investigation process that after the controversy arose, Mr. A found a police box in Yongin, Gyeonggi Province on the 18th of last month,  turned himself in to the police. Person A is said to have admitted all charges during the police investigation.

Embezzlement of stolen property is punishable by imprisonment for not more than one year or a fine of not more than 3 million KRW. Occupational embezzlement is a felony punishable by up to 10 years in prison or a fine of up to 30 million KRW.

Previously, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs also conducted an internal investigation to find out who was behind this illegal trade. It can be seen that the person who intentionally stole and sold Jungkook's hat will receive the appropriate punishment for abusing his position and embezzlement of property.
