For long-time ARMYs, Nicole Kim is not an unfamiliar name. She is widely known for serving as BTS’s interpreter at many international events, behind-the-scenes programs, and especially during the group’s meetings with famous Western artists such as Charlie Puth and MAX.

Kim rarely appears in public. One of the most notable occasions was when she accompanied V to a CELINE event in 2022, where fans were able to clearly see her elegant appearance and professional demeanor as she αѕѕisted the idol in conversations with executives from the luxury fashion brand.

Although fans often refer to her as BTS’s interpreter, Nicole Kim’s actual role at Big Hit Music from 2017 to 2022 was Director of A&R and Creative Director at HYBE, as well as Head of Creative for BTS. In December 2022, she left HYBE and began a new role at Columbia Records as Vice President, managing world-renowned artists such as Beyoncé, Adele, Pharrell Williams, Harry Styles, Rosalía, The Kid Laroi, and Lil Nas X.

However, her career seems to have undergone another major shift since all the members of BTS completed their military service and began planning their return with the album ARIRANG.

Fans paid particular attention to Nicole Kim on this day after the official account of A.Chic—a renowned songwriter and music producer who worked with BTS on 5 out of the 14 tracks on the ARIRANG album—posted the caption: “@official_love_nicole i’m forever indebted to you and all the ways you believe in me and my gifts. Thank you!”. This message strongly suggests that Nicole Kim may have been the person who connected BTS with this top-tier songwriter.

At that point, ARMYs also noticed that the description on Nicole’s Instagram profile had changed to “VP, BigHit Music.” In fact, back in September, when she attended the opening ceremony of the Min Yoongi Treatment Center on behalf of SUGA, Professor Chun—the director of the center—introduced Kim Hyun Jung (Nicole Kim) as Vice President of Big Hit Music during his speech. It is now clear that Nicole Kim has returned to work with BTS after the group completed their military service, this time with an even higher position.

If fans had paid closer attention earlier, they would have noticed that in June of last year Kim posted a farewell message to Columbia Records after working with the label for some time following her departure from Big Hit Music. Then in July, she was also spotted in a photo posted by V on his personal Instagram when BTS were hanging out with Charlie Puth.

In a video from singer Ayden Ju’s birthday party at the end of July—where j-hope, Jimin, and SUGA were also present—Nicole Kim could be seen sitting at the same table with them.

Moreover, it's not surprising that Nicole Kim has returned to work alongside BTS at the moment the group is preparing their comeback with ARIRANG, an album that reportedly involves many international artists and producers. After all, she has been working closely with BTS since their earliest collaborations with Western artists. In other words, she was the one who laid the groundwork for BTS’s successful collaborations with Western artists and can be considered one of the key figures who helped BTS to enter the Western market. 

Not only has A.Chic publicly praised her this time, but in the past, when working with BTS, producer MAX described her as an amazing person who played a crucial role in helping BTS and other artists feel comfortable and connected. Rapper Megan Thee Stallion also spoke highly of Nicole Kim, revealing that she was the one who sent the collaboration invitation on behalf of BTS.

Another detail that many fans noticed is that Vice President Nicole Kim, along with the current CEO of Big Hit Music, Shin Seon-jung—who was appointed in 2024—are both long-time staff members who have worked with BTS for about a decade. As BTS enters a new chapter after two years of hiatus, the presence of experienced executives who helped shape the group’s career brings a sense of reαѕѕurance to fans.
