The 25th World Scout Jamboree held at Saemangeum in North Jeolla Province was recently harshly criticized and constituted an embarrαѕѕing incident by the ̾k̾o̾r̾e̾an government. The lack of preparation, management and response to situations made the event a mess.
In the face of national embarrαѕѕment caused by the commotion of the World Scout Camp, a South ̾k̾o̾r̾e̾an lawmaker made an urgent request to recall the members of BTS, including Jin and j-hope to save the honor of the nation. Thought it seems to be the useful call and the return of all BTS members can become the right move to help save this event, but no!
BTS's fans as well as netizens began to sell and criticize the work of congressmen and the government for taking advantage of members of the group, including those serving in the army. Here's the full scene of the incident and the fan backlash:
Everyone knows that K-pop superstars - BTS are currently taking a hiatus from group activities to promote individual activities, in parallel with completing their m̷i̷l̷i̷t̷a̷r̷y̷ service. In which 2/7 members including Jin and j-hope are currently enlisted, one is a non-commissioned officer and the other is a training αѕѕistant. Meanwhile, SUGA is preparing for the m̷i̷l̷i̷t̷a̷r̷y̷ enlistment process.
Legally and practically, the group's members will not be able to perform together with the 7-member lineup at music events during this time. However, recently, according to Congressman Sung Il-jong, the ̾k̾o̾r̾e̾an m̷i̷l̷i̷t̷a̷r̷y̷ should allow them to take a break so that they can reunite for a short time and perform for thousands of young people from all over the world in the Kpop Super Live Concert, within the framework of The 25th World Scout Jamboree.
In the context that The 25th World Scout Jamboree was affected by the lack of preparation as well as the weaknesses in management and organization, Sung Il Jong said that the return of BTS includes members who are serving in the army is necessary and helps to improve the national image. The congressman stated: "The World Scout Jamboree 2023 held at Saemangeum, Jeonbuk is an event where national prestige has declined due to lack of preparation and inexperienced management. Please support me.
Not only Jeonbuk province is responsible for this, but also the central government has to support and show responsibility. For these precious guests, it is necessary to fill the lack of schedule... with the power of ̾k̾o̾r̾e̾an culture. All ministries and branches must coordinate and focus their abilities to complete well under the support of the people. I hope you will use all means to enhance the reputation of the country.
The memory that young people around the world have with BTS will become another äṩṩet of ̾k̾o̾r̾e̾a."
Responding to the ruling party MP's plan, the Defense Ministry told AFP that they have "nothing to comment" on the request. Meanwhile, a spokesperson for the ministry responded to a request saying they would have to discuss that with HYBE.
Regarding the situation of the 25th World Scout Jamboree held at Saemangeum in North Jeolla Province, it was indeed a chaotic and embarrαѕѕing situation. The event was attended by 43,000 scouts from 158 countries but was affected by the d̾e̾a̾d ̾ly heatwave, which resulted in mαѕѕ heatstroke casualties and caused thousands to evacuate and withdraw from the event. Poor hygiene is another big problem.
Organizers also had to completely cancel procedures at the campsite this week. Thousands of students were evacuated to Seoul and other parts of the country on Tuesday.
Even before the storm warning was issued, ̾k̾o̾r̾e̾an media called the camp a "national disgrace". This nightmare further fueled accusations of embezzlement of taxpayer money, money that should have been used for the event.
In this context, plus Congressman Sung's demands, BTS fans as well as netizens reacted angrily. Everyone knows that BTS has played an important role in promoting ̾k̾o̾r̾e̾an culture for many years, even serving as a special envoy of the country's president. However, they are under no obligation to be responsible for the trouble that the authorities themselves cause, damaging the reputation of the country.
Even last year, they held a free concert in Busan to support the ̾k̾o̾r̾e̾an government to host the World Expo 2030. Now they are also enlisting to serve the country, all is enough:
- Please don't use BTS to cover yourselves up!
- Isn't it absurd that (the South ̾k̾o̾r̾e̾an authorities) are putting the responsibility on BTS to clean up the mess they produced -- by not adequately preparing for the Jamboree?
- Them basically confessing in panic (urged) that bts is THE national prestige and wanting the ministry of national defense to use their authority over the two members in the m̷i̷l̷i̷t̷a̷r̷y̷ to make them perform and clean after their mess.. this is basically what's happening I'm sick
- why won't they just invite their supposed "next BTS"?
- SHAMELESS!!! ONLY WORD TO DESCRIBE THAT GOVT.
- They really r desperate,aren't they ...but
- Still using them while doing their service !!
- Clout chasers ! Im not even surprised anymore! We r done!
- We must boycott such concert if they force BTS to participate
- Shameless, desparate, pathetic. Weren't you the ones who couldn't decide to give exemption to you national prestige? N now ur begging them. Keep begging I hope the m̷i̷l̷i̷t̷a̷r̷y̷ doesn't agree.
- are they ffr? they need to leave my 2seok alone, they wanted BTS to enlist pike everyone else so they should leave them to serve in peace instead of remembering every blue moon how big their impact is and trying to exploit it
- The ridiculousness of this omg. I wouldn’t get mad if they said no I’m good
- Leave the boys alone!!! If they were so crucial to the prestige if the country, they should have been awarded exemption in the first place. Do not try to twist their arm just because 2 of them are under govt ministry and would not be able decline the request… STOP!!
