Jungkook released his second single - 3D at the end of September. Along with promoting the single on SNS, Jungkook also promoted the song on music shows, including KBS Music Bank. However, recently, Music Bank issued a response after receiving mixed reactions from the audíєnce about 3D being unsuitable for broadcasting.
Previously, when letting Jungkook perform in 3D, Music Bank received many petitions, but through internal discussion, in the end the performance still took place as planned. But it seems that many audíєnces are not satisfied with this decision and still ask Music Bank to explain this issue. Finally, they gave the most detailed explanation.
Below is the situation that happened when Jungkook performed in 3D on Music Bang and the station's response:
Most fans know that the review round is an indispensable part for an idol to perform on the music show stage. In the past, there have been many cases where BTS songs were not broadcast on television due to sensitive or aggressive language. BTS understands and accepts that or sometimes edits it to suit the performance.
Meanwhile, Jungkook's case seems to be even more complicated when more than 1,000 people have sent letters petitioning to remove his 3D performance at Music Bank. Specifically, the issue took place about a month before when KBS announced Jungkook's appearance in the promotional schedule for the single 3D. Since then, the station has received many petitions claiming that the song content and Jack Harlow's rap were not up to the standards for broadcast.
Letters of protest included: “Content about being drunk and lusting after an Asian woman is unappropriate”, “Television stationsshould just broadcast the rest, does not include the d̾r̾u̾g rap part of Jack Harlow, "Who was involved in writing and composing 3D has problem related to xenophobic and racism"...
Afterwards, through KBS's censorship, Jungkook was still able to perform in 3D at Music Bank as previously planned and received great love from fans. However, the debate did not end there as other viewers continued to ask Music Bank to answer why it approved Jungkook's 3D. Responding to the audíєnce's reaction, 1 month later, KBS finally made an official argument.
They said: "The songs that headquarters (KBS headquarters) judged to be 'qualified' are the two versions that the management company (HYBE) submitted after rearranging the original song". At the same time, a KBS representative said: "The first version is a song with the rap part removed, and in the second song, they removed the swear words and problematic sound sources from the original version. We judge it to be qualified because it is judged to not reach the level of ineligibility set forth in the regulation.”
Regarding review standards, 'KBS Song Review Operational Standards' clearly states 'reasons for disqualification' to respect cultural diversity and creative autonomy, while ensuring fairness and consistency. The principle is to create enough qualification. “Multiple music review committee members comprehensively review the genre and level of completion of the song to maintain objectivity and fairness, while maintaining creative autonomy and creativity by not a̾s̾suming lyrical content or meaning. We respect artists' goals and freedom of expression,” he said.
“Just because a song is rated ‘eligible’ doesn’t necessarily mean it will get airplay on our show. Although there are approximately 150 to 200 new songs that are judged as 'eligible' each week, not all of them make it to air", he continued. Then he concluded: "This is because the show's production team has judged comprehensive evaluation of the nature of each program as well as the preferences of viewers and listeners in choosing songs for broadcast."
It shows that Jungkook's "3D" is not only qualified to be broadcast but also performed for the love and anticipation of audíєnces around the world. So there is no further controversy about 3D being broadcast on Music Bank!
