The case that a KORAIL employee has been accessing RM's personal information without permission for three years is causing a stir among netizens and fans. Many K-netizens wish that the person who invaded RM's information would be jailed for his illєgαl actions.
But in reality, in some previous cases, the punishment was quite light. This is causing a backlash from fans and netizens, asking for a deeper investigation to have more appropriate punishments for the matter so that it doesn't happen again in the future.
Below is the information provided by K-media and along with netizens' reactions to the incident:
In yesterday's news of SBS, it was reported that an employee A, who works in Korail's IT department, accessed pαssenger data and stole RM's personal information. This employee collected RM's phone number, home address and travel itinerary 18 times over a 3-year period from 2019.
Mr. A's behavior was exposed after proudly telling others, "I checked RM’s reservation details and I went to see him in person" and he even bought tickets and cheered others on following RM. After receiving the information, KORAIL checked and confirmed Mr. A's misconduct.
It is known that the extent of the leakage of personal information to the outside has not been confirmed. KORAIL has dismissed Mr. A and is conducting disciplinary proceedings. During the internal investigation, Mr. A said, "I see the information simply out of curiosity and I am reviewing my mistakes".
However, it is expected that in the future Mr. A will receive internal discipline as well as criminal punishment for violating the Personal Information Protection Act. The Personal Information Protection Act stipulates that if the recipient of personal information uses it for fraudulent purposes without the consent of the information subject, that person will be punished by imprisonment for up to 5 years or a fine up to 50 million won.
Even in kσrєαn courts, many judgments are circulated about similar cases. In November 2018, while working as a proctor for the University Academic Competency Test, a male high school teacher, B, sent a KakaoTalk message saying “I like it” to the candidate by using the information application form provided by the student. As a supervisor, Mr. B's case was only fined with an administrative fine.
Fines are imposed in most cases of violations of the Personal Information Protection Act when there is no outflow. Meanwhile, netizens are extremely outraged that RM's case is more serious than that. Employee A has been illєgαlly accessing personal information of famous people in public agencies and for many years.
K-netizens believe that without the punishment of detention and re-education, this employee or other people working for KORAIL will continue to commit the same crime with other pαssengers. It is known that KORAIL is conducting disciplinary procedures, has not yet decided whether to prosecute Mr. A or not.
K-netizen also emphasized that KORAIL had a disrespectful way of handling the victim - RM. KORAIL should have apologized publicly to RM and their customers and clarified about the protection of customers' personal information in the future. At the same time, many people hope that HYBE will step in to prosecute the case and put the intruder in RM's private life in jail rather than just administrative punishment and internal accountability:
- We are furious and upset. This is unacceptable. This is breach of personal data, breach of trust. We are calling Korail & @korea_land to get to the bottom of this & fix the problem, so no one should fall victim to this ever again in the future.
- It's not enough you should be rotting in jail right now or getting sued
- WE'LL BE WAITING FOR THE LEGAL PROCEEDINGS
- Just want to remind you, how smart you are and how popular you are, if don't have some Respect, you didn't get anything in your life. Everything will leave you and the left just a KARMA. KORAIL RESPECT RM
- I can't imagine how he's feeling right now. I hope this person get the proper punishment they must be put in jail immediately
- If the issue is just money, the offender can pay and then continue to do so. So please send him to jail
- By the infor this A collects in a long time, he can pay for the fine easily =)))
- LAWSUITs & Proper Good Fines will get them to think before they act. simple!!
- How much more pain and suffering he has to endure? Asking for clarification on this matter !!
- that employee should receive lєgαl consequences @korail_official !
