On August 22, popular K-Pop producer Yang Joon Young alleged that the composers for Jungkook's ḧïẗ single "Seven" had plagiarized. The song indicated as the "prototype" for Seven was inspired by Fin.K.L's "Time of Mask", which he produced.
The case quickly attracted the attention of the ̾k̾o̾r̾e̾an online community as Yang Joon Young is a famous producer in this country while Jungkook and Seven are global stars and ḧïẗs. Many people also expressed surprise at the accusation of plagiarism of the ̾k̾o̾r̾e̾an musician.
However, after Bł₲ Ⱨł₮ Music released an official response regarding the incident, K-netizens expressed their displeasure and indignation at the producer's groundless action accusing Jungkook and Seven:
Recently, ̾k̾o̾r̾e̾an media reported that Jungkook's song "Seven" is being accused of plagiarism. Before that, the first English single that helped the youngest member of BTS debuted at No.1 Billboard Hot 100 and brought back many unprecedented records. Still causing a fever on a large scale, Jungkook's catchy UK Garage tune was accused of plagiarism, making Kpop fans surprising.
Specifically, the song is suspected of "borrowing the scale sequence" as the main melody used in the girl group Fin.K.L's Time of Mask, released in 2000. Time of Mask was composed by Yang Joon Young. The b-side track from Fin.K.L's SPECIAL album. Producer/musician Yang Joon Young has sent a document requesting an explanation including the digital track and soundboard to A, one of the main producers of HYBE Labels, and is currently awaiting a response.
At the same time, the media also quoted an official involved in the incident. This person said, "It has been confirmed that the main scale sequence of Jungkook's Seven and Fin.K.L's 'Time of Mask' are too similar. I know some famous ̾k̾o̾r̾e̾an composers in ̾k̾o̾r̾e̾a consider the songs are harmonically identical."
After several hours of refusing to respond to the press, Bł₲ Ⱨł₮ Music finally gave their answer, quickly closing the controversy. They made a strong statement: "We would like to announce that the suspicion of copyright infringement (plagiarism) related to Jungkook's song "SEVEN" is not true. This is a combined music product of 5 foreign musicians, which has nothing to do with the song on the ̾k̾o̾r̾e̾an album released 24 years ago, as the accusations suggest."
Next, BigHit Music said, "We would like to inform everyone that this is just a one-sided controversy / suspicion, which does not meet any criteria to evaluate plagiarism, such as similarity and essentially overlap".
Fans also know that Jungkook's Seven was produced entirely by a team of internationally renowned producers such as Andrew Watt, Jon Bellion, Henry Walter, Theron Makiel Thomas and featuring rapper Latto. They are completely unnecessary to the point of referencing a song that has pαѕѕed many years ago by a ̾k̾o̾r̾e̾an producer.
The news quickly spread, netizens also checked the songs for similarities. Naturally, as announced by Bł₲ Ⱨł₮ Music, the allegation is completely baseless and fans are outraged by the attitude of the producer who accused Jungkook:
- I mean, this is a bit of a (reach), LOL.
- But why would he send this to Bang Si Hyuk? The producer should send it to the song’s composer. The producer is the one who is alleging plagiarism, so I am sure we’ll know the results soon enough.
- I’m surprised at the controversy seeing how different the songs were. I really like the Fin.K.L. song, so I’ve listened to it a bunch.
- This isn’t it… ㅜㅜ.
- Why would an internationally renowned producer plagiarize him? LOL.
- I like both songs, but I can’t find any similarities, LOL.
- They can ḟïġḧẗ over lєgαlities, but to the common ear, this song is so shσckingly different, LOL.
- The producers are from overseas.
- ??? I just listened to it, and I am shσcked at how different they are.
- Oh, I haven’t heard ‘Time of Mask’ in a while. I’ll go listen to it.
- I am a fan, but this is about the song’s producer, so there is no reason to overreact. We’ll know when the results are out.
- Just seeking attention or nothing! JK really worked hard on SEVEN so this was a huge disrespect towards him! We Support You Jungkook
- What are we supposed to hear? I don’t hear anything similar at all
- they really be trying anything to bring jk down
- not that first-generation K-Pop producer lying just for clout
- Shouldn't this producer be sued for lying?
