K-media Claims BLACKPINK Rosé’s Success Was Due To BTS, Causing A Stir On SNS

In the song featuring Magen Thee Stalion, RM raps, "For Asians, man, we paved the way." Well, I think this is obvious to most K-pop fans, but it seems like some don't think so as Money Today's latest article has become a hot topic.

Once again, the кσяєαn media has brought up the topic of "BTS paved the way" into a debate among fans. This time, it was brought up in the context of BLACKPINK Rosé's latest song's success.

Here are the кσяєαn media's comments and the different reactions from fans on SNS:

In recent days, BLACKPINK Rosé's "APT" has become a phenomenon on SNS as its catchy, upbeat melody and memorable lyrics are played everywhere. The latest achievement of the song 'APT' featuring Bruno Mars is that it ranked eighth on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100. Billboard Hot 100. This is the highest ranking achieved by a female K-pop artist, setting a new record.

This was nothing to talk about until an article became the center of discussion when mentioning that Rosé's success was thanks to "BTS paved the way". The article was titled, ‘BTS will return’ Everyone is slowly buying them except for ants?…A reverse in HYBE’s Atmosphere

They mentioned that: “BTS is the power that allowed HYBE to occupy the top position in the entertainment industry. BTS has ranked first on the Billboard Hot 100 chart eight times (including individual activities) and entered the chart more than 50 times, with most of the Billboard records set by BTS.

Recently, BLACKPINK’s Rosé ranked eighth on the BIllbaord charts with her song, ‘APT’ featuring Bruno Mars. This was also possible because BTS paved the way for the global pop market, which was ignorant of K-pop.”

Under the article, some кσяєαn netizens were extremely surprised that K-media crediting BTS for another artist’s achievements:

 - If you say it like that, doesn’t that mean Psy was first? Did you guys rent out Billboard or soмєтнing?

- Who are you trying to bring in? You guys are the ones using sajaegi.

- People might actually think BTS was the first to go overseas…are you kidding me?

- But these guys even put down PSY, saying that BTS were the only ones

- Aren’t these BTS type of articles the ones that bring down their image?

- Proof that hybe is always trying to undermine another someone's success.. it's so annoying that they can't just try to see someone else elevate even if it's just a little step further...tbh I think hybe is just the ¢αи¢єя of kpop...the competition from hybe just seems toxic fr

Meanwhile, some people had different opinions. They thought that the article reflected correctly because BTS had paved the way before, which was indisputable:

- This article is already pissing many korean kpoppies who have 0 knowledge on overseas market so, I'm here to repeat it for them. BTS PAVED THE WAY

- BTS built hybe , they are the reason that company is a big as it is any idiot saying otherwise needs a reality check especially a certain fandom, the group and the group leader. BTS (OT7) for life

- It's true that BTS paved the way and opened the doors of the world to K-pop. They achieved #1 as a group and as soloists with кσяєαn songs without feat and with feat. While the rest have not yet achieved it despite doing feat with big artists.

- Who paved the way????!!!!! Its BTS!!!

- Reporter woke up & chose to spill facts!

- OHH SAY IT LOUDER FOR THE PEOPLE IN THE BACK

Finally, to understand "pave the way", I think we should look at it from the definition to the reality. "Pave the way" means making the walk on said way easier for people who follow after you. And that is exactly what BTS did in the Western market.

Award ceremonies have categories for Kpop after BTS won many international awards. You can buy Kpop albums at Walmart and Target easily because ARMYs worked hard until they were sold out. If you ask other 3rd and 4th generation idols or even veteran artists, they all will say that BTS paved the way for them and made everything easier.

In the past, you might have seen EXO in magazines or SUPER JUNIOR and GIRLS GENERATION on MTV before you knew about BTS. Wonder Girls, PSY, BIGBANG or SHINee also did some big things in the West before BTS debuted. However, the truth is that BTS made a more obvious impact and penetrated the Western market more deeply, thereby expanding the scope of Kpop.

This is not to underrate the importance of the artists who did before them, but there is definitely a difference in scale when it comes to BTS's impact!
