Jungkook Talks About His Religious Belief After Being Asked On His Livestream

Religion has recently become a topic of concern around the world, especially in the context of escalating fíghting in the G@za Strip. Just like other normal people, Kpop idols like Jungkook also have their own religious beliefs. Some famous people are Catholic, some are Buddhist, and there are other religions as well.

A question is, which religion is Jungkook a follower of? Over the years, Jungkook rarely mentioned his religion directly, but recently, he has not hesitated to share his religious views. Through Jungkook's answer, fans felt quite surprised.

Here's what Jungkook talked about with ARMYs about his religion:

In a context where religious conflict is the main trigger for the war in the Gaza Strip today, there are many stories about religious faith being discussed. But in reality, everyone has the right to choose and follow their religion without criticism or restriction. This right to religious freedom ensures that people of any religion receive equal respect and equality.

The BTS members are similar, but they especially rarely share about their religion because they are influential people. Therefore, all their statements related to religion can create great impacts on society. Another important thing is that, regardless of religion, BTS members always respect and care for other religions.

Meanwhile, ARMYs sometimes still make speculations about the members' religion based on their behavior and the music they put into songs like Idol, Blood, Sweat & Tears, Swan, etc. Initially, many people believed that Jungkook or some other members of BTS were Christians because of the great interaction between ̾k̾o̾r̾e̾an culture and this religion.

In ̾k̾o̾r̾e̾a, Christianity is also very developed and has great influence on all fields such as education, politics and culture. So, it is no surprise that it is also reflected in the K-pop entertainment industry and BTS aka Jungkook is a believer in this religion.

Another factor that makes fans believe that he is a follower of God is because he studíєd at the School of Performing Arts in Seoul (SOPA). The school’s official website says it is “South ̾k̾o̾r̾e̾a’s first and only Christian-based high school with special purposes in performing arts.” It includes mandatory services every Wednesday afternoon as well as a Bible-teaching clαss once a week. ARMYs also noticed Jungkook praying before the meal. This is not specific to Christianity, but most Christians do. In addition, Jungkook covered the Christmas song “O Holy Night.” Lyrics include, “It is the night of our dear Savior’s birth,” and “O night divine, O night when Christ was born.”

Later, some fans noticed that during one Chuseok holiday, Jungkook seemed to pray more like a Buddhist than a Christian. He has also been seen at the Ganghwa Bomunsa (보문사 – 강화) Buddhist temple or worn Mala beaded bracelet during photoshoots, music videos, and live broadcasts for many years. Mala (in Sanskrit, it means “garland”) beads are rooted in Hinduism and Buddhism and are used for meditation. Hence there are many speculations that he is a Buddhist.

Some people even speculate that Jungkook might be Muslim. Overall, there is too much speculation and not much more convincing evidence. Therefore, it was not until the most recent live broadcast, when Jungkook shared about his religious beliefs, that fans had a clear conclusion on this issue.

Specifically, during a conversation with fans on many different topics, Jungkook received a question about his religion. In response to fans' questions, Jungkook directly mentioned that he is not religious because he has never been pressured to follow a certain religion. He pointed out that in his family, members also pursue different religious beliefs, while his father is Catholic and his mother is Buddhist.

Jungkook frankly mentioned: "I don’t have a religion. My father’s side is Christian, and my mother’s side is Buddhist. But for us (children/younger generations)… We don’t really have religions. There wasn’t any pressure for us to have a religion, either. Therefore, I don’t have a religion."

It's also a reasonable explanation for why Jungkook practices some rituals of both religions! For Jungkook and even many young people at the present time, non-sectarian or non-religious has become the mainstream, but the good things in each religion are preserved and have great influence. That is the most appreciable thing!
