Yesterday (KST), Jin made a surprise appearance in front of ARMYs on SUGA's talk show Suchwita. At his request, Jin's broadcast was released in the warm June even though it was filmed before he enlisted in the army.
In this broadcast, Jin and SUGA shared many emotional stories of BTS from the perspective of the big brothers in the group. One of them included the story of BTS' intention to disband in 2018 and also the cause of their "tearful" speech at the MAMA awards that year.
Finally, after a long time, SUGA and Jin also help fans unravel what was so big that BTS intended to disband at that golden time of their careers:
Going back to BTS's speech in 2018 at the MAMA awards ceremony when the group received the "Artist of the Year" award, perhaps any fan must admit that it was an unєхpєctєd and painful moment. By not only receiving a prestigious award in their career, but in that moment, BTS also honestly showed that the group worked hard and how closely the members connected to overcome disbanding this year to achieve meaningful success.
At that same moment, fans can't forget the image of both j-hope and Jin crying and emotionally sharing about the group's intention to disband and thanking the members for staying instead of leaving. For fans and netizens, the sudden revelation of BTS's intention to disband in 2018 was unthinkable.
2018 is considered to be the most successful year in BTS's career as they continue their unprecedented momentum with a series of history-making achievements. From releasing two big albums and breaking the charts at home and abroad to doing the Love Yourself world tour and renewing her contract with BIGHIT MUSIC for the next seven years...They are many perfect milestones leading to a brighter future more than the dark side that Jin and j-hope revealed in their unscripted speech.
After so many amazing achievements, everyone must be amazed by those shares and wonder what is the reason for the group to think of disbanding. Fortunately, after 5 years, Jin and j-hope have personally spoken out about what they said during their speech at the 2018 MAMA in Suchwita and on the occasion of BTS' 10th anniversary.
When SUGA opened the topic by joking that Jin and j-hope's message in their speech "left the strongest impression", all three members began to recall. That year, j-hope sobbed during his speech while the members stood around: "ARMY, I worried a lot before coming here. I want to show you our best all the time without any mistakes so we always prepare the stage with worried hearts. This award... I would've cried today no matter if we won this award or not. I wanted to repay because we worked so hard and received so much love from you guys. Thank you so so much and I want to say thanks to the members who are together with me at this moment. Thank you. I love you."
Following that, Jin also couldn't hold back his tears but tried to keep his emotion stable and continued to clarify the matter when revealing: "It was really tough for all of us mentally earlier this year. We even talked about whether to disband or not and gave it a lot of thought… but we pulled ourselves together and I’m so glad that we were able to receive such an amazing award. I’d like to thank our members for pulling togther. I’m so grateful for our members and for ARMY for always showing us their love and support. Thank you."
After recalling that moment, SUGA pointed out that it was an unscripted speech and it followed their feelings, so he wanted to know what made j-hope and Jin confess their intention of disbanding. And Jin was comfortable mentioning it as the story had päṩṩed many years ago.
He points out that the real reason BTS intended to disband in 2018 - keeping the timing high is because the group only has one day and a half off a month during three months while they're promoting their ḧïẗ singles "Fake Love" and "Idol" in 2018. At that time, with the rising popularity, Bł₲ Ⱨł₮ Music believed that BTS's dense schedule was necessary to spread their reputation globally.
However, their packed schedule at the time was too difficult for them. At a time when all the members almost exploded when they couldn't stand the pressure and fatigue, the group wanted to "let it all go". The members even gathered at a bar near their studio to talk about their true feelings at the time.
Later, when looking back at his speech, Jin admitted that he just wanted to honestly share with ARMYs what they've been through but it seems the confession “could’ve sounded negative because it’s not an easy thing to talk about". But he mentioned it in his speech because it was “in the past already” and everything “turned out okay in the end.”. BTS chose to get through it together instead of leaving!
j-hope also went on to complement Jin by adding that the group felt like “underdogs”, even in 2018. Meanwhile, SUGA agreed, saying that despite the tough times, he felt the team needed that experience to grow and that led them to even greater success.
Now, BTS is celebrating its 10th anniversary, and the tough times of 2018 are part of the history of making this memorable and successful milestone for the group. Jin and j-hope expressed their truest feelings and showed fans the "human" sides of BTS so that everyone can appreciate the journey we've been through.
