BTS is one of the few K-pop groups that have not only survived the infamous seven-year curse but also remained successful for over a decade with all seven members still together. What sets BTS apart is the completely equal environment within the group, where everyone, from the oldest hyung to the youngest maknae, has an equal voice and is always willing to listen to, respect, and learn from one another so they can grow and develop together.

But this naturally raises a question for many people: In a group that values freedom and equality so highly, which member holds the most power when it comes to everything related to the group? Fortunately, Jin recently revealed the answer to this question in an interview with GQ!

During the interview, Jin first shared his perspective on the difference between solo activities and group activities with BTS, based on his personal experiences over the years.

He said: "Group activities have a clear overall direction, so it’s most important to coordinate opinions among the members toward the set direction. If you honestly share your opinions with each other, you can create better results than you expected. And most of all, the fact that the members are together is very reαѕѕuring. On the other hand, solo activities guarantee autonomy in what you want to do, but it also comes with a sense of responsibility and a lot of tension."

Based on Jin’s reflection, the interviewer then asked how the seven BTS members have maintained smooth communication and built such a good relationship over more than a decade. In response, he not only shared the secret behind how BTS have maintained their close friendship, but also, in the process, pointed out which member is the most powerful in the group—the person at the center of how the members’ relationship works.

Specifically, he explained: "In our case, I think our leader RM's role is significant. He listens carefully to each of our opinions, then suggests and leads us to the best way/solution. He's reliable and trustworthy. Me and RM, both have things we'd like to do, but we don't αѕѕert them strongly in group activities, so instead, we'd like to reflect them in our solo projects".

Fans realized that even though there are some members older than leader RM in BTS such as Jin and SUGA, in all matters related to the group, the leader still has the strongest voice. This is also shown through many behind-the-scenes footage in the past, showing that RM is almost the one who makes the final decision or the common solution whenever the group has a dispute.

Leadership coach Noona Nafousi ever mentioned RM when talking about the popularity of BTS: “Because of their amazing group leader RM. He has no ego, it’s not all about him. It’s about the rest of the band. He’s the only one that can speak English and yet he doesn’t isolate the rest of his team. Just a clαѕѕic example of a great leadership.”
