Like Jin, Jimin was not originally a K-pop trainee or someone known for his vocal talent. Instead, he was trained as a contemporary dancer. Another similarity between the two is that both Jin and Jimin excelled in the fields they initially pursued.
Jimin's talent for dance was recognized at an early age by his family. His parents enrolled him at Busan High School of Arts, where he was able to further develop his strength in contemporary dance. Throughout his school years, he consistently ranked among the school's top students, and his teachers had high expectations that he would one day become a successful professional dancer.

However, his career took an υиєχρє¢тє∂ turn after he discovered his pαѕѕion for becoming a K-pop idol. He decided to leave contemporary dance behind and join Big Hit Music as an idol trainee. Walking away from a discipline he had devoted years to—and one in which everyone believed he was talented enough to succeed professionally—made his decision to pursue a new path incredibly difficult. One of the very first obstacles he faced was opposition from his teachers.
His teacher later explained the reason behind that strong opposition: "Yes, Jimin was very good at contemporary dance since his acceptance to the school. He also had the talent for all forms of dance as well. When he expressed wanting to go down a path of a public dancer rather than just pure dancing, it felt like I was losing a genius. I also couldn’t help but think about just how hard a dance singer’s path is and how success is not guaranteed in this type of work. That is why I was against his decision..."
Amid the challenges of pursuing a completely new career, there was fortunately one person who stood firmly by Jimin's side and reinforced his decision to become an idol—his father. The teacher also revealed in that interview that Jimin's father even came to the school in person to persuade the teachers so that his son could confidently pursue his new dream.
Not only did he support Jimin's decision to start over, but he also demonstrated unwavering faith in his son's aspirations, standing beside him and helping him overcome every obstacle along the way!

In a separate interview, Jimin's father shared his own perspective on that pivotal period: "Let me first explain how he was accepted to the Busan High School of Arts. In middle school, there was a time where he had to write about his future. In his paper, he wrote that he wanted to go to Busan High School of Arts and learn dance and use that background and combine it with music to become a singer or a celebrity. His paper was very detailed and I think this was the start of his dream to become an idol. Of course he was good at dancing and singing from a young age. In fifth grade, he would sing Maya’s “Azalea” at karaoke and he was able to sing the high notes very well."

Because he understood both his son's personality and his talents so well—and because he witnessed Jimin's unwavering determination as he worked toward his new dream—his father felt there was nothing to do but respect his decision and support him every step of the way. In the end, his faith in his son proved to be well placed.
Even Jimin's former teacher, after witnessing the success he has achieved today, congratulated him and acknowledged the tremendous effort he put into making his dream a reality. She proudly said: "...I didn’t know he would succeed like he is now. Either way, Jimin is a type of student who puts his all in whatever he does. He is where he is now because of his continuous efforts as BTS."
Not every hero stands in the spotlight. For Jimin, there was always someone behind the scenes, fιgнтing for his dream during the moments that mattered most. His father's unwavering belief gave him the confidence and determination to pursue what once seemed like an impossible dream. In the end, that faith was rewarded—with a happy ending for both Jimin and his father.
