Jimin Exposes What Jungkook Hated So Much In The Military That He Even Protested

It has been a year since all of the BTS members were discharged from the military. Both the idols and the fans are now enjoying what feels like the happiest period after such a long wait. Although military service in modern peacetime conditions is not as harsh as it once was, everyone knows that military life is still far more disciplined and difficult than ordinary life — especially compared to the lifestyle of global K-pop idols.

RM once shared that he struggled with severe insomnia during his enlistment to the point where he needed medication and medical counseling. Several members have avoided talking much about military life after discharge because, despite the good memories, it was genuinely a traumatic experience in many ways. Jimin and Jungkook are among them!

Even though the other members often commented that Jimin and Jungkook’s military stories were entertaining — even asking why they did not share them earlier for fans during season 2 of the travel show “Are You Sure?” filmed shortly after discharge — Jimin explained that at the time, both he and probably the fans did not really want to revisit the topic too much. Only recently, during a post-concert livestream in Stanford with j-hope, RM, and V, did Jimin finally feel comfortable sharing a few small stories — including one that revealed Jungkook’s rare but hilarious “rebellious spirit” during military service.

According to Jimin, one of the most memorable moments happened when he and Jungkook were still military trainees. The two heard that church services on base often handed out bread and snacks to sol∂ιєrs after training sessions. Naturally, they immediately decided to go in hopes of eating soмєтнing and getting a short break after exhausting drills.

Jimin laughed as he recalled: “The two of us went there thinking we’d just eat a piece of bread. We got there—honestly, we did want to eat it.” However, things quickly went off track when they realized that all the shaved-head trainees there were standing up together, singing and dancing during the church gathering.

The idol described the moment the two exchanged desperate looks: “The two of us looked at each other like, ‘Ah, d*mn…’ We really didn’t want to do it at all.” But before they could escape, a trainee who had enlisted about a week earlier walked past and kept urging everyone: “Everyone stand up, hurry up.”

That was when Jungkook’s “rebellious side” suddenly appeared. According to Jimin, the BTS maknae protested like: “No way,” “Why not?” and “Because I don’t want to do it.” Jimin’s reenactment of Jungkook’s reaction immediately sent all the BTS members into uncontrollable laughter during the livestream. Fans also could not stop laughing at the image of two shaved-head young men who only wanted free bread but somehow ended up dragged into a group singing-and-dancing session.

This was not the only moment that revealed Jungkook’s rebellious spirit. Jimin also shared another memory involving the two of them taking consecutive night watch duties. Every time Jimin returned from his shift, he had to struggle to wake Jungkook up for the next one.

“Me and Jungkook had back to back military night time watch duty and when I come back I go ‘Jungkook-ah wake up, you gotta wake up now,’ then he goes ‘AHHH FFF’,” Jimin said while laughing. He continued: “He didn't even care if the others heard or woke up and just goes ‘AHHH FFFFF’.” After about a minute of complaining, Jungkook finally sat up, rubbed his shaved head, and muttered hopelessly: “Hyung, what the h3ck are we even doing here.”

Right after the livestream, clips of Jimin telling these stories quickly spread all over social media. Fans especially loved seeing this “rebellious Golden Maknae” image because it felt so genuine and adorable. Many ARMYs joked that the fact Jungkook survived military life for so long was practically “a miracle,” because just hearing a few of his complaints was enough to show how much he hated waking up early and doing things he did not want to do:

- The image of bald jungkook and jimin going to the church for free food and being forced to join a religious ceremony is taking me out

- Please not jikook going to church to eat? And they didn’t want to participate and this senior officer pαѕѕing by told to do it My little rebel Jungkook was like NO WAY. I’m crndeifhd this is so funny

- why is this actually sending me. they didnt know what tf they were doing in that church and military

- The Jikook military story is so thrilling. No wonder they chose the Buddy System, they're totally on the same wavelength, complementing each other perfectly, inseparable

- Everytime they narrate their m!l!tary stories, even though they say it funnily I just get anxious listening to it

- He wanted OUT of that place. The story is sad and funny at the same time, I wouldn’t be able to sleep properly knowing I’ll be woken up any minute for night duty. I’m glad they can laugh now because it must’ve been h3ll

- I can already see it in my head lol He looks like that badαѕѕ main character in a movie. While everyone else obeys the hierarchy, he’s out here being a sigma and doing whatever he wants.

- Our free-spirited maknae who isn't afraid to say no to what he hates, even in the military. In the end, Jimini-hyung just can't help but find him absolutely adorable

- Their story in the military—if it were made into a real K-Drama, it'd be so fяєαкing exciting, d*mn it
