According to Chosun, as of the afternoon of March 26 (local time), at least 26 people were ∂єα∂ and 19 others were injured when forest fires broke out due to dry air and strong winds in the southern regions of South кσяєα.

Officials said that as of Thursday, more than 36,000 hectares of land had been burned, 37,185 residents had been evacuated and the number was still rising. 10,000 firefιgнтers have been deployed to the southern regions but have not been able to put out the fires.

Currently, about 68% of the fires in Uiseong and Andong have been extinguished, according to authorities. However, strong and dry winds have hindered and caused many difficulties in the firefιgнтing process.

The worst wildfires in the history of the nation started from Friday (March 21) after sparks from a lawn mower ignited a fire in Sancheong, South Gyeongsang Province, about 300 kilometers (186 miles) south of Seoul. The fire then spread to Uiseong County and several neighboring areas in North Gyeongsang Province,.

While the government has vowed to do everything in its power to extinguish the fires and care for local residents, the entertainment industry has also stepped up to support the government. Many A-listed celebrities including singers, actors, groups and entertainment companies have donated to help victims of wildfires in the Ulsan, Gyeongbuk and Gyeongnam areas and restore the local ecosystem.

Leading the charge is actress IU, who has donated 200 million won. IVE also donated 100 million KRW to the forest fire relief effort and 100 million KRW to improve the treatment of firefιgнтers, for a total of 200 million won. Meanwhile, actor Byun Woo Seok and NCT Mark also donated 100 million won each.

JYP Entertainment donated 500 million won to the social welfare organization World Vision. The company said, “We would like to express our deepest condolences to the victims who ℓσѕт their homes due to the sudden forest fire, and we hope that the local residents and children who are struggling will find hope and return to their daily lives as soon as possible.”
