HYBE Sends A Warning To The Military Because Of Using BTS To Make Money

These days, other than the m̴i̴l̴i̴t̴a̴r̴y̴, there is clearly no news source that can provide information or images about BTS to fans. While news about the members helps fans feel secure, the issue of the m̴i̴l̴i̴t̴a̴r̴y̴ taking advantage of BTS to make money also begins to arise.

Most recently, HYBE even sent a warning to the m̴i̴l̴i̴t̴a̴r̴y̴ claiming that they were violating members' privacy and intellectual property for profit. When this news was announced, fans were very surprised because most did not think about this aspect while some others were happy because HYBE is taking strict measures to protect the idols.

Below is what the ̾k̾o̾r̾e̾an media has been reporting loudly in recent hours about this matter of concern:

BTS is currently serving in the army and placed under probation by the m̴i̴l̴i̴t̴a̴r̴y̴ system. Therefore, members cannot engage in business activities while serving the country. However, the truth is that the m̴i̴l̴i̴t̴a̴r̴y̴ can use them to profit by taking advantage of fans' love during this difficult time for the fandom.

Since late last year, the m̴i̴l̴i̴t̴a̴r̴y̴ has been making changes to The Camp application with the purpose of providing services for fans of famous artists who enlist, typically BTS. It includes paid letters to unlimited characters or celebrity fan sites. While some fans are happy to be able to interact with the members even when they enlist, some are also aware of how the m̴i̴l̴i̴t̴a̴r̴y̴ is making money from BTS's enlistment.

But it wasn't until recently that this story received more attention, especially HYBE had to send a warning letter to  the operator of The Camp because they considered this app use BTS members to make money. Specifically, a few hours ago, the ̾k̾o̾r̾e̾an media was abuzz. reported that BTS's management company sent a letter to warn the operator of the m̴i̴l̴i̴t̴a̴r̴y̴ mail app 'The Camp' for ilℓєgαℓly using the members' photos and names.

It is known that HYBE believes that The Camp is violating BTS's publicity rights during their time in the barracks. The right of publicity refers to the right to control the commercial use of the economic value of an individual's personal attributes, such as portrait, name, or voice. Previously, The Camp has repeatedly posted portrait photos of BTS members on its website, and also opened and operated individual fan communities for each member using IP (intellectual property) as the portrait and name of BTS and named it 'Official'. In particular, The Camp also sells their Mililang dolls and solďïệr name tags as packages on The Camp Mall, the commercial channel of "The Camp".

Previously, The Camp was not such this kind of developed application, but since BTS enlisted in the army, with increased interest from fans, the army decided to reform this website to adapt the needs and then, make a profit. While 7 BTS members are serving in the m̴i̴l̴i̴t̴a̴r̴y̴, due to the ilℓєgαℓ use of the members' popularity and reputation for the purpose of making money for the m̴i̴l̴i̴t̴a̴r̴y̴, fans strongly protested and the management company had to get involved.

Regarding this incident, a HYBE official stated to Maeil Business Newspaper's Star Today, "We will take strict action after confirming that the operator of 'The Camp' violated the right of publicity by using portraits and names of BTS members without permission." He also added: "We plan to strengthen oversight at the agency level and take strict action against violations of publicity rights and commercial use, which the company and artists have invested a lot of capital and effort." As for The Camp, the moderators have confirmed that they have removed posts related to BTS but have not made any specific statements.

In response to this news, fans also expressed their agreement with HYBE's actions. Some also recalled that Jimin and Jungkook had asked their unit not to post their portraits on The Camp before and thought that the above story partly explained the reason:

- This is going to be very interesting bc this app thought they could use our guys to make money.

- So happy and relieved to see how they're protecting the boys

- They revamp the app after our guys started their service and added new things, looking for ways to generate $.

- i know there will always be justice for bts. I love BH/Hybe for this

- I hope the comics that is going around lately using BTS would be sent a warning or better yet, sued as well.

- ARMY may be buy crazy on BTS endorsed product, but line is drawn on exploitation of their basic rights. Hope this will be a lesson to others, that we are not like other fandom that will allow BTS to be exploited just for the sake of selfish intentions.

- Yes, yes and yes. Go hybe sue all of them

- I don't understand the purpose of this site bec the solďïệrs have access to their phones though not on a regular basis, they have leaves and friends and family can visit them too. I hope BH will be successful in suing this site

- Is so disgusting that they force young men to go and learn how to k word people for two years and also want to gain a profit taking advantage of the feelings of the people that love them and miss them that want to communicate with them

- I used to be sad because Jimin and Jungkook didn't have portrait photos but now I understand why they did it

- The boys are probably pissed. Cypher 5 to 10 against the SK government are loading! Those idiots think they could make profit on BTS/Army without we raising legit concern voicing our disgust! They really guessed most of us moves like vile kpop stan addicted to visual content

- This is a company protecting their artists. They are not there pm for anyone’s entertainment. They are there bc they have to. They literally don’t have a choice
