In June of this year, кσяєαn media widely reported that SUGA had donated 5 billion won (~ 3.6 million USD) to Severance Hospital (affiliated with Yonsei University) to establish the “Min Yoon-gi Treatment Center”, dedicated to supporting children and adolescents with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). This is also the largest donation ever made by an artist to the Yonsei University medical system.
The center is expected to provide multidisciplinary therapies, including speech, psychological, and behavioral therapy, along with other supportive мєтнods to help patients develop social communication sкιℓℓs and independence. Construction began in June, with the center scheduled to open in September and officially begin operations in October, with further enhancements planned afterward.
As planned, this morning—September 30th—Severance Hospital held the grand opening of the Min Yoongi Treatment Center, welcoming numerous guests and patients. The ceremony took place in a cozy, elegantly decorated lounge's concert hall, attended by the hospital’s executives, the Center’s team, and invited dignitaries.
Right at the entrance, an office plaque displaying: “Min Yoongi Treatment Center. This center is a space for the treatment of children and adolescents with autism spectrum disorder, established with the noble intentions and dedication of BTS SUGA (real name: Min Yoongi), our sponsor. (This space is scheduled to be expanded and relocated in the future.) – Severance”, made a strong impression.
Bright blue banners with the words "Opening ceremony and signboard hanging ceremony" were also placed in highly visible locations. Each attendee at the opening received a wнιтe bear keychain, wearing a blue shirt embroidered with the letter “Y” (symbolizing Yoongi).
The highlight of the opening ceremony was undoubtedly the surprise appearance of SUGA, the center’s largest benefactor, via a pre-recorded video. In his congratulatory message, the BTS rapper could not hide his happiness, sharing that: "I’m truly happy that a dedicated space has been established for social therapy through music" and "In the future, when the children’s ward is newly built, this place will be reborn as an even broader and more advanced facility. Until then, I hope this space can serve as a source of hope and a starting point for showing the power of music".
An interesting note is that Severance Hospital, one of South кσяєα’s leading medical institutions, is also where SUGA was treated for appendicitis. During his hospitalization, he composed one of BTS’s early legendary songs, Just One Day.
Years later, SUGA collaborated with the hospital’s Department of Child Psychiatry to realize this ambitious and meaningful project.
