Since BTS's debut until now, Twitter is still considered the social networking platform that helps connect them with their fans the most. Even after the members own individual Instagram accounts, there are things about Twitter that BTS's longtime fanbase just can't give up on this social network.
However, recently, a new change makes Twitter mark the big end of an era for users and open a new era under the direction of billionaire Elon Musk. And in just one morning, a series of celebrities suddenly became "ordinary people" on this social networking platform after Twitter applied the Twitter Blue policy. Including BTS's 48 million followers account.
Although this may seem serious, the fans' reaction to BTS's disappearance is even more remarkable. Below is the reaction of ARMYs to this incident:
On April 19, Twitter announced that it would remove old verified checkmarks on April 20. Users will now need to subscribe to Twitter Blue, a premium subscription that starts at 8 USD a month to own a verified account.
In addition to receiving a check mark, Twitter Blue users are also "ranked in preference in chats and searches." They'll also see fewer ads, be able to post longer and higher-quality videos, and they'll be able to use existing Twitter Blue features, including the edit button.
Previously, verified users needed to go through a verification application process to prove they were really who they said they were but now everyone has the opportunity to become "celebrities" with verified accounts on this SNS. The social network also removed many of its content moderation protections, which are used to screen for accounts that impersonate and spread misinformation.
"Prior to Musk’s change allowing anyone to get a blue check-mark, Twitter had more than 420,000 verified accounts. The goal of Twitter’s original verification program was to help people know that a high-profile user was, in fact, who they said they were to avoid confusion with imposters." Variety mentioned.
Now, the big Twitter accounts or the accounts of many famous stars on Twitter are losing the blue check mark and becoming normal accounts. Typically accounts of Justin Bieber, Selena Gomez, Kim Kardashian, Katy Perry, Jennifer Lopez, Lady Gaga, Naomi Campbell, Harry Styles, Victoria Beckham, Jay-Z, Cristiano Ronaldo...And no exception, even BTS , with 48.3 million Twitter followers, is also not exempt. The reason is that these celebrities do not register for the new paid green program of the platform owned by Elon Musk.
The fact that these large accounts, including BTS's account, have become "a normal account" has caused fans to have extremely interesting reactions. Some fans complained about Elon Musk's stupidity when launching Twitter Blue and were surprised, and wanted Twitter to restore the mark for BTS:
- no but why am i loving it so much though. i absolutely love it no checkmark seems like they're one of us woohoo let's go bts unverified on twt era
- they took bts' blue check omfg why'd they leave them butt naked it feels like that video where the guy walked up to the other guy with a vacuum and pulled his pants off
- they stole bts’ verification mark ELON!
- They need to pay it back to BTS - one of huge twitter users
- I think bighít might do the gold one for them tho (unless that’s only for companies or smtn idk)
- Big acc lots their blue check mark?
Meanwhile, others think that BTS has been using their Twitter account less recently and instead, they have Instagram that can be more comfortable and safe to share a lot of things, it seems that the group will not care about this change:
- Everyone screaming over how BTS_twt blue tick is gone like BTS use Twitter and i bet they don't care about it
- you know ∂αми well they are not getting that blue checkmark back they do not care about this app anymore and honestly good for them
- Right cause wtf do they look like paying for a mark next to their user
- I hope they never come back in this h3llhole
- It's just.. There. And they don't Care. Jungkook would just delete it without hesitation.
- they won't notice fr
- $100 on fact blue check mark wont appear because they deleted the app and wont pay for twitter blue
In particular, many people are also interested when BTS becomes other "normal" people like most fans. Some tease BTS as a K-pop "dinosaur rookie" in the era of Elon Musk's Twitter. Others are curious as to which member will find out about the loss of the blue tick and pay $8 for owning a Twitter Blue account:
- We know hobi was the only one with the päṩṩword still
- Guess that which members would pay for it when finding?
- With our sunshine being taken away from us, this acc will be collecting cobwebs for sure
- This Gen5 idol is just about to debut but it's already 48.5M followers
- Super rookies are waiting for debut and their account was not verified yet broooo
Meanwhile another fact is that some ARMYs claim that their favorite "bankrupt millionaires" can spend $8 on more important things… like ramen:
- bts when they realize they gotta pay $8 monthly for a blue tick whrn they could have got ramen instead -
- They'd rather buy ramen than payiny $8 monthly im sure, cz ramen for life bro
- Forget the monthly $8 ..it's noodle for life
- I bet they'll still buy ramen instead. Priorities first you know
- i remember jimin not even having a premium spotify subscription
- I can imagine them questioning Joon and him just sitting in a corner repeating the same ∂αми answer like nan molla
- It's ramen over paying if i were them same reaction ramen over paying for the blue tick
- Y'all pls buy BTS albums, they're going shirtless day by day and now they've to pay for the blue tick on twitter. Help them
- now a days....maknae solos are fíghting and slutshaming other members. If all the big solo accounts tweet... respect all the members and shipping is not true...and some kinds of facts..50% solo fanwar will go. Big solo accounts are misleading baby armys. Reach big accounts
- thinking abt hybe putting 8 dollars aside every month for bts to have a blue tick on an app is so funny. the board executive: yes.. how do we fit this in our budget... hmmmmmm...
Don't forget that BTS is no stranger to being strangers. The @bts_twt account was unverified for the first three years, but they still made an impact and even made Twitter more popular.
Will @bts_twt join Twitter Blue? The answer will be answered in the coming days!
