BTS's Defamer Sentenced To Prison And Forced To Compensate Victims

In the context of widespread fake news that has seriously affected the reputation of artists in кσяєα, many кσяєαn stars have not silently endured the slander. One of the "notorious" names that has recently been brought to light is Youtuber Sojang.

BTS, especially RM, V and Jungkook, have had their reputations severely affected by this Youtuber's false rumors. Now, Sojang has had to take legal responsibility for her unethical behavior.

Not only did Sojang have to go to jail, but she was also reported to have to pay a large sum to celebrity victims:

If you are a Kpop fan or an ARMY, you have definitely heard the name Sojang before. This is the name of a YouTube channel that often posts rumors about celebrities without evidence, such as plastic surgery, dating, school νισℓєи¢є, etc. The owner of this YouTube channel even edits photos or fabricates ѕнσ¢кing news to attract fans' attention.

These rumors spread at a dizzying speed, significantly affecting the reputation of idols. According to statistics, BTS members are the names mentioned many times in Sojang's false videos. Specifically, this YouTuber once made a video about V with the title "BTS V drank and fought, the situation seems serious" or spread news about RM's "girlfriend" who comes from a tycoon background. In addition, SUGA and Jungkook were also slandered on this YouTube channel.

But since 2024, it seems to be the end of Sojang when artists realize the serious impact of the news posted by this YouTuber. Not only BTS, but also Jang Won Young and Kang Daniel have been determined to find Sojang's true identity and take her to court to sue. Then, Sojang has continuously failed in lawsuits against a series of K-pop stars.

Most recently, on the 15th of this month, Judge Kim Saet-byeol of the 11th Criminal Division of the Seoul District Court sentenced YouTuber Sojang (whose real surname is Park, 36 years old) to two years in prison and three years of probation for defamation and insult under the Act on Promotion of Information and Communications Network Utilization and Information Protection. The court also ordered her to pay a fine of 210 million KRW and complete 120 hours of community service.

The court said that YouTuber Park, who runs the Sojang channel, uploaded 23 videos defaming seven celebrities, including idols and influencers, from October 2021 to June 2023. Sojang was also accused of insulting two female idol group members by posting videos belittling their appearances on her YouTube channel.

According to the results of the prosecution's analysis of the YouTube channel account, it can be seen that YouTuber Park pocketed 250 million KRW within 2 years from June 2021. Of which, fake videos, maliciously slandering Jang Won Young of IVE, Jungkook and V of BTS, and Kang Daniel helped this person earn hundreds of millions of dollars in profit.

While handing her the sentence, Judge Kim emphasized the severity of the defamation cases, pointing out that “the defendant repeatedly slandered famous celebrities and uploaded provocative content on her YouTube channel, making considerable profits. So, her guilt is grave.” However, the court also took into consideration that Park belatedly admitted to her mistakes and was reflecting on her actions. The sentence also took into account that Park had already paid ₩20.0 million KRW (about $13,700 USD) in damages to Wonyoung and a total of ₩60.0 million KRW (about $41,100 USD) to the other victims.

On the other hand, last year, V and Jungkook also filed a lawsuit against Sojang through HYBE. The lawsuit by the two BTS members was successful, and the female YouTuber had to pay them 90 million KRW in compensation. This year’s lawsuit appears to have officially shut down Sojang’s YouTube channel, putting an end to her egregious defamation of popular idols.

Following the news, ARMYs and K-pop fans celebrated that the defamer had received a fitting punishment:
